Turkey is a critical chokepoint to the middle east and central asia. Erdogan is a greasy leader on the path towards despotism, but our history with Turkey is much deeper than many other NATO states.

Hell we almost started WW3 because we wanted to put nukes in Turkey during the Cuban Missile Crisis period.

I mean to be fair we should have Diplomats in freaking Russia... and those Diplomats have every right to have security. We should have diplomats in China, Iran, and even North Korea too. I think the devil's in the details here with how the US wants to have a presence in Ukraine and the Baltic States moving forward.

MIC can't let this burn out too quick. Where else are they going to get their funds? We need a couple more years of funding before China gets around to invading Taiwan

Actually we can't. Much of that list is inaccurate concerning Russia's invasion of the Ukraine. 1,2,4, and 8 are absolutely not checked off. They are actually accurate. Others are accurate to certain degree. Others can be checked off the list.

Also the side that will imprison their citizens for up to fifteen years for simply speaking out against the war is usually the side that is clearly wrong. So that side being the face of the devil is on the partial list for sure. Certainly those that still see Putin as justified and are routing for him make #10 only a partial as well. Others have legitimate reasons for opposing intervention.

Biden could block Ukraine but he can't guarantee what a future President would do. Short of a ratified treaty that guarantees Ukraine's getting in or not getting in a US President can only say what their term in office will be.

Can we stop this "First Boots On The Ground" stuff?

We've been there for a while, that's exactly what the Army SF is trained for.

I think it was a mistake for the US to reopen the embassy at Kyiv - which was pushed by both parties. Naturally the military wants to send special forces there to protect diplomats given the history at places like Benghazi.

If you don't send troops and US diplomats are harmed, it's a scandal and investigation why troops were not sent to protect them.
If you do send troops it becomes, "OMG this is how we enter the war!"

The biggest risk here isn't that US troops will fight Russia troops, it's a missile hitting the embassy (most likely errant). Not sure how any military presence changes that.

That is apparently the plan. Continue to escalate this, crossing the lines constituting acts of war, intentionally trying to provoke the Russians in order to justifying a full fledged, boots on the ground in large numbers, war with Russia.

    By or before November.

They think it will force us to unify behind these diabolical traitors. It will not.
