Another foodie poll for Hangout. What's your favorite filling stuffed in dough savory food. Limiting it for now to savory foods. Can start another thread for things like filled donuts and turnovers.

To get the poll going I like all of the above but I'll vote for Samosa. I just had some bao for lunch and while good they often have too much dough. The same with pirogis and kolaches. Empanadas and calzones seem more hit or miss. When they are good they are good but a lot of times get doughy salty messes.

Calzone is king. Essentially a pizza pocket. Pizza toppings are a good filling for this type of food, as they are already cut/diced/crumbled into small portions that easily fit into a bite of calzone just like they would a bite of pizza. I love all of them though. Might have voted for pot stickers if they were included, to kick up the bao experience with fried goodness. Kolaches were traditionally a sweet, the sausage kolache is a savory twist on the original.

Couldn’t you pick prettier baos though? Those look like ugly buttholes and what might come out after an accident.

I thought about including things like pot stickers but then would go down the list of including things like tortellini and ravioli. Decided to stick with hand held dough with savory fillings.

Could do another poll with filled pasta that would include pot stickers

I looked at a few different pics from various sites and most of the Bao looked about the same

Just a note that the baked pirogi shown here are very similar to Kolache. For awhile I was tempted to list kolache as a type of pirogi but this being a Texas board where kolaches are big thought best to give them their own category.

I'll take any of them, but if I had to choose one.... I couldn't.... either samosas or kolaches (klobasneks).

I think the sweet version is a true "kolache" and what most people call a "kolache" is really a "klobasnek". Or at least that's how I was corrected a while back. If I also recall correctly, the klobasnek is an invention made by Czech immigrants in Texas.

So far no votes for Bao. Maybe should’ve found a better Bao pic.

I’ve had things that are very to what are called “Kolaches” in Texas made by Czech immigrants in the Minnesota Iron Range that are called “Pasties”. They are more substantial than Kolaches being bigger with more
    Fillings.

Some version of all of these things are my favorite foods. I voted kolache but snow capped bbq pork buns are amazing.

Oceans Palace has a good version. Haven’t seen them anywhere else in Houston though.
