Please explain how a 6’4 point guard would be better than a 6’10 forward

Ivey isn't a PG, he's a SG, which makes even less sense.

I'd actually prefer Jabari Smith over Ivey so this question is really confusing.

But not sure why you're still asking me since I'm a dumbass. You should move on man.

My top 5 list: Chet > Jabari > Ivey > Banchero > Murray. If Ivey and Banchero are both available. I would still take Banchero. Right now you can't really tell who is better. We definitely need big more than guards.

To be clear, I don't think Ivey isn't going to be a good player or doesn't have a chance to be special. I actually value him more than Chet who I have serious concerns about. I am also not convinced that he is that much better than KPJ. He totally could be, but KPJ has also shown signs of being special as well, mental tantrums aside. With our future perimeter superstar (Green, not KPJ) seemingly secured, I much rather roll the dice on someone who can potentially be a superstar big to pair him with. If we DO end up with Ivey, it certainly won't be the end of the world, not even remotely close.

You know they had guys like Josh Jackson and Dennis Smith Jr over Tatum. Every year these sites get a few people wrong.

Dennis Smith Jr. was more polished coming out as a freshman than Ivey is as a sophomore. that's if you're trying to convert Ivey to a PG role.

He is going to need a year or two. I rather go for one of the 3 bigs who are all better than him now and have just as much potential.

Well, either Banchero, Chet, or Jabari depending on which of the 3 is left.

While I don't think Banchero has the highest upside in the class, he's also got a really high floor. His size, skills, and competitive drive will make him into at least a very good starting player. He does have the low waist which will deny him the elite athleticism that many superstars have.

I don't see superstar potential with Ivey. He is flashy, but is he a winner with all the skills needed to be a star? I don't see it.

I love Jaden Ivey. I think he'll be a great player in the league. But the more I look at him, the more I think Paolo is the better pick.

Here's the thing: I keep trying to convince myself Jaden could be a PG, but...why? He's a good-but-not-great passer, whereas he thrives as a slasher. Of the top four, I think he and Paolo have the highest chance of being a true #1 scoring option for a team. So, if we're picking a scoring option 1b to Green's 1a, I'll take the 6'10 guy.

The NBA is trending combo guards (preferably over 6'3") instead of true point guards
6'3" and under for two main reasons:
    1) switch-ability defensively
    2) get away from defense focus on that one ball dominated point guard. As defenses
are getting smarter, offenses are having to adapt.

The first point, they are getting destroyed by bigger players in the half court with bully-ball
    step backs in the paint.

The second point, if you watch the game teams are bringing the ball across mid court
and immediately passing to a facilitator but want other facilitators on the court to pass
to to disrupt that main defensive focus. Pass across court to change the angle of attack.
Move the defense. If an opponent puts their best lock down defender on CP3....then
the ball swings to another facilitator. Defenses are going to need two lock down
perimeter defenders to stop most teams.....Rockets would have 3 superb facilitators
on the court at one time, though.

Teams are going 3 guard lineups more often for this reason.
Get the ball off of rebound and quickly push the pace and
quick fast break every time every possession. Multiple
combo guards allow for the rebound portion, with the fast break
portion, with the facilitation portion. Are they great passers? No.
Do they have to be? No. Just good enough.

The past is the past!!!!! Quite bringing up things that happened in the
    stone age days before 2014/15.

Miami: starters in playoffs (according to NBA.com game tracker stats and heights)
    PJ Tucker...6'5".....5.5 rebs / 2.1 ast
    Butler.........6'7" ....5.9 rebs / 5.5 Ast
    Bam Bam..6'9"....10.1 rebs / 3.4 Ast
    Strus.........6'5".....3.0 rebs / 1.4 Ast
Gabe Vincent...6'3"..1.9 rebs / 1.9 Ast [Butler hates being on the court with 6'4" Oladipo]
Honorable mention: no Lowry, Dipo 6'4", Herro 6'5", Caleb Martin 6'5", Duncan Robinson 6'7"

    Celtics
    Tatum...6'8"....8.0 rebs / 4.4 Ast
    Horford.. 6'9"...7.7 rebs / 3.4 Ast
    R Williams...6'9"...9.6 rebs / 2.0 Ast
    Jaylen brown ...6'6"....6.1 rebs / 3.5 Ast
    Marcus Smart....6'4"....3.8 rebs / 5.9 Ast
Honorable mention: Grant Williams 6'6", Pritchard 6'1", no D White 6'4" (went V Maxwell on them)

    Mavs
    Doncic...6'7"....9.1 rebs / 8.7 Ast
Brunson 6'1"....3.9 rebs / 4.8 Ast...[breaks trend but use Hardaway as SF season ]
    D Finney-Smith...6'7"....4.7 rebs / 1.9 Ast
    Reggie Bullock...6'6"....3.5 rebs / 1.2 Ast
    Dwight Powell...6'10"...4.9 rebs / 1.2 Ast
Honorable mention: Kleber 6'10", Dinwiddie 6'6", Bertans 6'10", Hardaway 6'5"- (injured)

Warriors (older....trying to hold on to team unity)
Curry...6'2".....5.2 rebs / 6.3 Ast (I said if you are under 6'3" you better shoot like Curry or Trae Young)
    Klay....6'6"......3.9 rebs / 2.8 Ast
    Wiggins...6'7"....4.5 rebs / 2.2 Ast
    Dray.........6'6"....7.3 rebs / 7.0 Ast
    Looney....6'9"....7.3 rebs / 2.0 Ast
Honorable mention: Poole 6'4", Otto Porter 6'8"

*****Those not listed are getting crumbs as far as minutes

As you can see the trending teams getting to the finish line nowadays mix in zone
defense and take out the boys that slow PACE down and go bigger with ball handlers
for defensive purposes. Notice how the assists are spread out and done by committee.
    Rebounds as well.

    Porter Jr....4.4 rebs / 6.2 Ast........last 21 games 5.1 rebs / 6.4 Ast
    Jalen Green....3.4 rebs / 2.6 Ast .....last 34 games 3.5 rebs / 3.1 Ast
    Ivey was.......4.9 rebs / 3.1 Ast (21/22 college)

I expect year one of this 3-headed monster to be:
    Porter: 5.6 rebs / 7 - 8 Ast
    Jalen Green: 4.0 rebs / 3.8 Ast
    Ivey: 4.2 rebs / 4.4 Ast
    _____
    J Christopher: 3.9 rebs / 3.3 Ast

Which is not much different from the contenders. Silas opening up the playbook and
the team actually trying to win games makes this happen.

Some day you will learn to respect my knowledge....some day

Sometimes people overthink, like Atlanta who had Doncic falling to their lap but just had to take the next Curry Trae Young.

The right move is just get whoever is left among the big 3. If somehow somebody offers Ivey+top 10 lotto pick in this draft, ok then that's an acceptable trade cuz then you can hedge your bet with either Sochan or Duren (2 of the other guys with star potential).

Otherwise better to just do the obvious and just pick the big man left.

I just want to point out the reason the 6'6 and below teams are left is cuz the big men have bad teams.

Embiid got injured and got saddled with Harden. Jokic teammates got injured. Same with Giannis. Lebron got Westbrooked. KD got Hardened and Irvinged. The Celtic's best player is Tatum who is not small he is 6'8. Same with Doncic dude is 6'8.

If you look at the MVP contenders all of them are big men nobody is 6'6 and shorter.

Whatever happened to the team that coveted Bigs? What would Hakeem do? Plus the MVP is a big. And the other one too. We wanna be on elite level.

This thread is so full of fail. From the very start.

    Rockets are definitely drafting Ivey.....

BPA. Everybody knows that Ivey is better than Paolo....doh, I mean Paolo is best player in the draft...:( F
(Nobody knows those things in this draft.)

Draft Ivey at 3 is a mistsake.....:( Fail
    (Nobody knows)

Banchero has higher ceiling and floor....:( Fail
    (Nobody knows)

Rockets will for sure take Ivey or Chet....:( Fail
    (Nobody knows that.)

Clutch knows what the organization is thinking....:( Fail

KPJr is better than Ivey........:( Fail
Ivey is better than KPJr........:( Fail
    (Sheesh.)

Rockets gonna trade KPJr after drafting Ivey....:( Fail
    (Nostradamus.)

Rockets really really really like Paolo a whole lot, they're definitely taking him at 3 if he's there......:( Fail
(Oh, please, for crying out loud. The Rockets really like a lot of guys.)

Sengun not a good rebounder...:( Fail
    (Not true.)

Green isn't as a great athlete.....:( Fail

Just so much fail here. Must be 14-year-olds.
