This has been the unofficial dividing line in D1 college football for ages (now known as "G5/P5"), it's merely manifesting in reality now that the arbitrary rules around player compensation and transfers have been changed. Provided we can't find a solution to the pay-for-play conundrum, I'd like to see the split become official so the have-nots can stop trying to chase butterflies. At this point it doesn't feel like new/more rules will help, because they'll all get thrown out in court. The only way out of this mess is either: Federal government steps in (and all the complications/baggage that comes with having Congress involved) A 3rd party, free market solution evolves (essentially a league that siphons away all of the salary-worthy talent) A time machine to go back and change this decision (significantly reducing the profitability of the sport) If you want the best/most realistic solution, it may be time to start supporting the USFL/XFL/AFL/LMNOPFL.
Saban acts a plantation owner that got his slaves taken away. Like anyone would go to Alabama for an education. LOL
He’s not wrong though really. This is not a sustainable model at all. Definitely a bit hypocritical of Saban since every school pays for players but Fisher signed more 5* players this class than all of his other prior classes at A&M combined. Not a coincidence.
Communist dictator Saban with all the money and treasures crying about capitalism. I'll allow the **** schools to cry. Not Alabama, lol, **** off.
How is this any different than the 10 current schools that have a legit shot at a national championship. There has never been parity in college football.
It's different (for Saban) because these boomers need to gatekeep new blood from prospering. It's their nature. It's only fun when it benefits him the most. He was also probably trying to rile up some donors, but who cares, **** em.
Saban calling out the recruiting practices of others is like Hitler calling out other countries for being war like.
Were you not the guy crowing over the pancake fund? Did you have an issue when UT was signing more 5* players than anybody in Texas?
Oh I have no problem with what Jimbo/A&M allegedly did. This is the beast the NCAA unleashed. If there aren’t any ways to police or enforce rules, then f*ck it. But if Sark had just signed the #1 recruiting class in the history of recruiting (think about that for a second) and came out and said it’s because they all liked Austin, then he’d deserved to get called out like Jimbo as it would be a bold face lie.
Ya could be an indirect message to boosters to step their game up. But if NIL continues in its current form, boosters will likely have more control over recruiting than anyone else. Boomer or not, I'd bet 99.9% of coaches already hated clamoring to boosters to begin with.
Jimbo seemed to protest too much. Lashing out at Saban publicly wasn't the right way to do this. Esp. when Jimbo owns documented violations.
