Having the third pick is great, but it also presents some challenges. The consensus is that Banchero will be the best player available at 3. He is a great offensive talent, but a potentially poor fit next to Sengun. In terms of future team construction, having Paolo next to Green means we need to find three 3&D players to start next to our primary scorers. That limits our options going forward and may reduce the utility or asset value of our current roster. Trading up to grab Jabari may be our best play. I’d personally be happy to add a late Nets pick (with some light protection) and a swap on top of #3 to trade for #1. What would you be willing to add to the 3rd pick to entice Orlando?
unless the rockets add Jalen Green to that #3 pick which we know isn't happening, the rockets have nothing else to move up to the #1 pick So basically this thread isn't actually relevant since there's no chance in reality it'll happen
Nothing. We think Green can be a franchise player. Despite his flaws on D, Banchero has a pretty high probability of being a better centerpiece than Chet Durant or Jabari Bosh. Let's see who ends up the better Batman and worry about ancillary pieces later.
Shouldn't this be the formula, anyway? Once you've found a "Booker" (Green) and an "Ayton" (Sengun, Banchero)? You surround those 2 with Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, Marcus Smart, Dorian Finney-Smith, Dillon Brooks, PJ Tucker, and so on and so forth. It's the same regardless of picking Holmgren, Smith or Banchero. Go and get you some 3&D guys -> win a title.
we are years away from contending so we are not giving up draft assets to move to number one as none are clearly better, we are not worried about fit as banchero can always be flipped in several years. Plus we are going to tank one more year before actually trying to win. Having banchero with shitty defense will help us tank. We are all about accumulating the most assets at this point. Sengun is not even considered in who we draft as he may be flipped too if he doesnt develop a great three point shot. We are not building around him. Everyone is tradeable outside of green and after this tradeline well have a completely different team. Wood, gordon, tate and possibly kpj will be gone.
it’s a solid formula, but it means we lose asset value on Sengun (cost us 2 picks) and KPJ. Plus having two weak/average defenders means other starters need to be elite on that end - it’s an easier path if at least one of your stars is a two-way guy.
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, just take whoever falls to 3. If you are thinking of moving up, focus on the 17th pick.
