Ariza could lock the other team’s best guard for stretches. Tatum will never have that ability.

And nowhere near as skilled as Chet. That by no means guarantees that Chet will ever reach anywhere close to that level, but it sure ain't a bad place to start.

    Jabari is my preference...
Chet worries me too much... i think he will have an injury plagued career...
    I'm good with Paolo...

then its a matter of seeing who falls to us at 17...

    dont screw it up, Stone.

This is how I've got them rated too. But if you draft Banchero you better go looking for a vet 3-D guy in a trade to show the young guys the ropes. Who might be available as a 3-D guy with the Nets pick or how far would you have to trade up to get this kind of guy?

Also I see Porter as a terrible fit at PG with Sengun,Green, Banchero.

    What are your thoughts?

Yes, less weight will improve stamina and lateral quickness.

But defense is about want to.

Banchero, Green, Sengun are going to be hard to watch defensively.

Even if you surround these 3 with 2 elite long defenders (easier said than done).

Rockets play a lot of switch defense and you cannot hide 3 players on defense.

they’ll just have to get better at defense then…which is absolutely possible. I want us to bring in a defensive assistant like Bizdelik. The results were there. Why can’t we replicate that by hiring another defensive taskmaster?

if we take Paolo no doubt we will need to prioritize defense with our 2nd pick…assuming we keep it.

Using Chet like Cavs use Mobley is perfect.

Whichever team that drafts Chet would be smart to not try and reinvent the wheel.

    JBB showed the way.

    I agree.

He was one of my early comps, but Paolo is 6'10.

Cade also much more IQ and effort on defense.

no top 5 pick is ever taken with the belief that they will always be a negative on D . Most lottery picks have front offices dreaming of 2-way players . Or at least passable .

we took green at 2 thinking that long term he’d have to be hidden ?

defense is a game of effort AND smarts . Let’s give these 19 year olds time to gain experience and mature into adults . Banchero might eventually become the best defender of the 3 .

just like some offense carries from college to nba , so does some defense.

sengun has shown signs of being very smart. This is his first year as an nba athlete . Let’s see how he develops . Green has already showed flashes of solid pesky D .

let’s not forget that offensive pressure contributes to your defense as well . So do other teammates just being in a good position .

chets frame may make things tough in the early going . It’s not necessarily gaining weight , it’s gaining a feel for the nba game .

there are some athletic and size things you can’t teach .. but each player has to work to become a top nba athlete , becoming a skilled / smart player takes hard work too .

Some of success depends on the landscape of the league; How top heavy it is during a particular period of time , how good are the top 5 guys ? Will sengun / green / #3 be as good in a few years as the 7-10 year vets (who typically hold an advantage)

jaylen brown , Brandon Ingram , towns , Embiid , Tatum , and the other best players from those and more recent classes ... they’ve all improved over the years .

these guys are all not just honing aspects of their game but adding completely new facets and learning to play different styles .

the same will have to happen to our group .

mine final note , the rockets threw out a pretty decent defense in 14-15 with Howard missing half the season with Beverley/old ass terry / harden / ariza / dmo / Jones / Dorsey (smith and brewer later on )

different league and all , and I do believe right now you need at least 1 “big” if you play double big lineups to be pretty damn athletic.

Jabari seems to be the only top 3 guy from that perspective that could pair with sengun , but he does have some questions too .

I look forward to learning more about each of the 3 bigs games . Right now on the surface , it appears each of them has a chance to be a top 10 type player .

I’d be the most scared if Chet fell to 3 . Either Jabari or banchero will immediately be able to be tested and see if we can’t make progress in a couple over a couple of years .

Banchero will need to make strides on D and Jabari will have to show some more things on offense . Chet will get out leveraged consistently early on and if he shows timidity on the perimeter it will be rough .

Will the rookie get a whistle ? Prolly not .

If a 3 for 5 and 7 deal was actually on the table and Jabari and Paolo were gone I would do it . I’d even throw in wood for free

Big wings like Banchero are what wins championships.

He compares his game to Lebron, Giannis, Tatum.

I wouldn't say Banchero is LeBron Version 2.0, but I could possibly see him as a Lebron Abridged Edition or a LeBron Children's Classic.

Where are all those “the lotto is rigged” folks? The NBA obviously has a bias towards Orlando and Oklahoma City over the 4th biggest city in the country ;)

    "He'd be Paolo Banchero."

That last line made me laugh.

    2 completely different players.

Jabari has an almost unblockable jumper, from anywhere on the court.

And his attitude and effort as perimeter defender are high level.

AI and even Sweet Lou Williams could take anyone of the dribble too.

    Didn't make them great defenders.

Defensive commitment, that dog mindset, is critical to defense.

Sengun has it, always had it, Paolo needs to get it.

I think we only have to worry about Sengun starting for one year, because there is no way I am having victor on the bench.

    Exactly!

You can hide Tatum's defense with DPOY (Smart), Timelord, Brown, Williams, etc.

Not hiding defense on a team like Rockets.

Need FOUR defensive minded players to hide ONE poor to average defender.

Need #1 pick next draft to add Wembanyana.

Even losing every game is not a guarantee that happens as we've seen firsthand past 2 drafts.

Rockets need to focus with what they have in hand instead of dreaming of what they can catch in the bush.
