Yeah there's 4 guys I'd want to have if I did this deal which is what makes this trade idea fun and interesting
I made the options that way because 1.) Vegas consensus is that Chet and Jabari will go top 2; and 2.) my own personal preference would be to take Chet or Jabari if they fall to us, and I think Clutchfans majority is starting to adopt this as well. Banchero is a special case for us in particular because of Sengun. There’s still a loud and proud minority out there stumping for Banchero as top prospect in the whole draft, but like the Suggs squad last year (which I was admittedly a part of early on) it is starting to dwindle.
If the Rockets don't come out of the draft with Chet, Jabari, Paolo or Ivey then they tanked for nothing. Sure there are some other 'nice' players in this draft, but you tank for the big dog, not to land a couple of pups. And the Rockets really don't need more picks. They need to be trying to consolidate at this point.
This is interesting. I'd trade down to #4 or 5 to get Ivey + future #1. Problem is now you have a glut at guard. The Rockets have a glut at every position except 5 ...which is why I want Chet. He's the highest potential guy available and happens to fit neatly into our roster. You could even keep Wood another year and let Chet come off the bench and bulk up.
Sure I get that, but it still postulating a loaded suggestion going off of innuendo and hearsay hoping to gain traction for a preferred outcome. I can find a bunch of outlets saying Banchero goes #1 and contrary to your research I think he's only going to pick up steam once the deep dives begin and the workouts get conducted. Regardless - any of the other prospects outside of the Big 3 are just tiers below them. Quality > Quantity.
No if Chet or Jabari are there at 2. Yes only if Ivey was definitely there at 5. I’d swap Banchero for Ivey and the 7th pick. You should walk away from this with one of Chet/Smith/Banchero/Ivey. I think people are really undervaluing Banchero.
I legitimately don't understand why people want to trade back and gather assist. People on this site really want to follow Boston example.
This exactly...ONLY if Ivey is available. Unfortunately, it would be real difficult to know what Sactowns gonna do at 4 and you’d have to potentially draft a guy at 3 that you would be ok with going forward if sac did take Ivey.
It really just depends on how you view the top 5 picks in this draft. If you think there is a clear top 3 then it's not worth trading down. If you feel like by the time we are ready to pick there won't be much difference from 3 to 5 then it might be worth exploring. I do get what you're saying though and I'm also a firm firm believer in getting the high end talent over everything. For me personally there isn't a big gap between Ivey and Banchero so if I believe one of the 2 would be available at 5 and I can ensure that will happen then why not acquire another top 10 pick in the process.
I would say no. It's not a bad trade but not a great trade. I don't think we make less than great trades and risk something going wrong. It's like like overthinking on something that's not super meaningful.
