Parsing out your comments for emphasis, you point out the very definition of the right has, indeed, moved farther right.

That said, white supremacy has always existed in this country.

There are two problems with white supremacists:
Problem 1A, you are a terrible person
Problem 1B, you want to overthrow (or take over) the federal government

So if you are a conservative that supports America and you are not a white supremacist, the means does not justify the end since their end, literally, wants to overthrow the government and abolish our way of life.

When Tim McVeigh blew up a federal building in OKC during the 90s, he heavily referenced the Turner Diaries. Gert or wtf its called now is not a novel idea.

The shrouding of flag and bible for these kinds of thought are not new either. They're just opportunists waiting for a downturn in the economy or government (weak government generally signals weak rule of law and individual/biz rights.) while using easy symbols for bootstrapped legitimacy.

The difference is our normalization of it because the economy is cursed and we're too divided to agree who gets the crumbs. We might be broke every year, but it's all bread and guns for the Iraqis, Afghanis and Ukranians though...is that why no one really cares about fiscal responsibility since dub**** frittered away a trillion+ each for 9/11, Global Financial Crisis, Afghanistan, Iraq 2?

Anyways, it's sad the right has capitulated to White Nationalists (weak or strong) as they've become an unspoken majority where blue collar midwest/flyover whites and old dirty south whites consolidate into the "Hillbilly Effigy" populist votes.

This is what happens when corporations and billionaires capture both political parties while controlling a toothless ratings-driven media. No trust or confidence in a 100+ yr old bureacracy.

No drive to unify past our collective and many existential threats because the other is the existential threat.

Guess Rome needs to burn a bit more to get our **** together. Nah.. lets just make fun of the bafoonery of declaring who gets to **** in who's toilet and call it a day.

I don't think the political spectrum has changed as much as who is empowered. For much of the 90's and 00's the Dems in power have been centrists thanks in a large part to Clinton. now with social media, you've seen people on the far left be empowered as well so there are those two factions on the democratic side, but in a strange way, the far right is what is empowering the far left by blowing up their voices and making them the center of attention - which is necessarily in order to portray the left as becoming more extreme.

By the same token, I think the far right is being empowered but differently, they are getting a boost from the media (Sky News, Fox, etc) as well as from individuals like the Koch brothers. Or brother now.

It's ironic that you see yourself as a moderate being pushed to the right, and I feel myself as a moderate being pushed to the left.

I reject the "both sides do it" argument. It's defeatist talk.

As a country, what do we believe in? Our declaration of independence stated that "all men are created equal". Which party is promoting that value?

The democrats are just as bad. They elected a black guy president and gave people health care.
