They don't need Christian Wood, they desperately need a defensive back up center and 3 point shooting. They already have a big who can score in Tobias Harris.
Uh, Wood and Tate are free agents same as Turner. Turner is a rim protector, Sengun and Wood are not. Patrick Williams has as high a ceiling or higher than Sengun. As for "better options in the draft" i doubt that without trading up costing more picks or players... there usually isn't anything more than a rotation piece at #17 most drafts. Who is going to be there at #17 that is better than Patrick Williams?
Because he's top 3 in the nba at our biggest weakness. Let's not act like Christian Wood is some ironman... Wood has missed 30% of his games in the past 2 seasons. Turner has missed 42% over that same period of time. So it's a difference of about 10 games. It's noteable but it's also night and day on defense..... I personally think Patrick Williams is the bigger get.. he's on par with scottie barnes in my book... It would accelerate the rebuild getting Williams... also Coby White could be a long term pg option if kpj turns worse... it's a flier but of value to have the chance...
I think they're gonna move Harris as part of another deal. That's my guess and why I think Wood is an attractive piece to them.
Just draft Tari Eason (Patrick Williams) or Mark Williams (Myles Turner) with #17. Would be cheaper to pick up another FRP in this draft with 1 or 2 or the players in your trade package, this is less cumbersome and more probable option.
Eason doesn't look like a bad prospect but Williams has done it in the nba and is a little younger. Granted, more years of control with the rookie but also possibility he fails at the next level... Reasonable option... i prefer less risk though... 1 year of success in college is riskier than nba results...

Mark Williams isn't an equivalent to Turner. He's basically DeAndre Jordan on offense. No spacing at all... Turner gives you 35% outside shooting... I think he grades out as a quality backup... gives you rim protection but some scouting i read on him questions his foot speed at the nba level...
Backup??? MW singular weakness is not getting to FT line enough. MW is more like a longer taller Capela (7'0 with 7'7 wingspan) with his willingness to run baseline to baseline with hair on fire and ability to switch but much better rim protector and finisher. https://airalamo.com/posts/mark-williams-duke-san-antonio-spurs-radar And his 73% FT% (almost identical to Banchero) is a good indicator that MW can be a 3P threat in time. https://www.tankathon.com/players/compare?players=jalen-duren--mark-williams
Let just draft Pablo and Williams from Duke. Also, I would love to have Jovic on our team….maybe we can trade Wood and Gordon to Charlotte because they need a center. They have two first round picks…they can give us one for Wood.
Has plenty of size, a legit 7-footer and decent mobility. Rebounds on the ball well and knows his role, as a rebounder and defender. Does a lot of his scoring on put-backs and dump offs around the rim. Can be a bit heavy-footed and doesn’t change directions particularly well, which could lead to trouble defending against NBA speed and in pick and roll situations. https://nbadraftroom.com/p/mark-williams/ Have no problem taking him but Sengun has higher upside... i see nothing to make anyone think he's becoming a spacer anytime soon. He's an old fashion center in the Deandre Jordan or Andre Drummond mold which are getting harder to play in the modern nba.
Btw, i say backup because of how the nba is now. He's a top 10 pick 20 years ago. Teams want their bigs to be more skilled on both ends. A team like the warriors can get away with a bogut type at center, most teams need more... I don't see him starting over Sengun. He does solve the rim protection issue but creates a paint clogging one on the other end. They can use him in pick and roll but ideally you're not doing that all game long. He's a rotation player with a needed skill set for us... i don't hesitate to take him but he's not the ultimate solution unless he develops additional skills, which isn't a guarantee...
Just some perspective... per 40s... Mark Williams - Sophmore 19 points 12.5 rebounds 4.8 blocks .8 steals 1.5 assists 0.00% 3pt 72.3% 2pt Mo Bamba - Freshman 17.1 points 14.0 rebounds 4.9 blocks 1.0 steal .7 assists 27.5% 3pt 60.3% 2pt I like Mo Bamba, but he's not starting for most teams in the nba... wouldn't mind him as a free agent, but he's a guy you play in stretches depending on matchups and what is happening... he's not giving you 38 minutes a night in the nba...
MW is 20+ lbs heavier than Bamba when he was drafted (245 vs 225), MW will have no trouble banging down low with most NBA centers right away. Unlike Bamba who had to gain strength first. Mo Bamba is not switchable like MW, lacks stamina of MW, more foul prone than MW, doesn't distribute like MW and doesn't play with the same energy on both ends of court like MW. And you failed to show FT% which indicates future NBA success for 3P%. Bamba shot 68% from FT while MW shoots 73% (same as Banchero). And I linked MW FG% which was ridiculous 71%. Bamba isn't as efficient a finisher at a nondescript 54%. And FYI - while Bamba has not panned out as planned in NBA, that has zero bearing on MW success. Especially because MW nba comp is not even Bamba. Apples and armadillos man.
MW is also a year older which makes your 20 pounds issue over blown. FT% does not indicate future success as a 3pt shooter. It doesn’t hurt, but they are different skill sets. Modern era big men... ft% / 3pt%: Yao: 83.3 / 20.0 KAT: 83.3 / 39.7 Jokic: 83.0 / 34.5 Embiid: 81.0 / 33.8 Bosh: 80.4 / 32.3 B Lopez: 79.6 / 34.1 Valanciunas: 78.5 / 35.9 Kanter: 77.7 / 28.9 Amare: 77.4 / 24.3 It's all over the place. There's no significant pattern. The switchable thing is debatable. I read scouts saying he will have trouble at the next level doing that. Doesn’t mean they are right. He's a nice prospect but i don't see anyone saying top 10 for him... Playing hard is a nice trait. It doesn’t make you a better shooter, passer, or ball handler though. It does help the rebounding, steals, and blocks... I'm not sure why you're so offended because I'm ok with taking him. He's no Turner yet because he hasn't proven anything at the nba level on defense and is still raw on offense. Btw, at the same age as Bamba, he shot 53% from free throw. You are reading way too much into things... the difference between his 72.7% this year and the 53.7% as a freshman is about 13 free throws over the full season. The sample size is so small you can't assume anything based on it.
It's fine if you don't like Bamba... here are the comps from some scouting websites: Michael Olowakandi Poor Man's Greg Oden Erick Dampier Clint Capela Not a lot of allstar games there... though not a completely fair list... Nerlens Noel had similar production in college. Different body type so not quite good comparison... just saying college success doesn't always translate... I think better chance Segun becomes an adequate defender than Mark Williams a capable floor spacer. Just my opinion... He's good value at 17 but he doesn't space AND rim protect like Turner yet... maybe someday though...
Yao and Amare in your list of modern bigs???? Neither were in their prime when NBA changed rule on defending guards which is the precursor to the evolution of the modern big. And FT% as "indicative" or "predictive" for future 3P% improvement does not mean guaranteed. If I sound frustrated it's because there are analytics trends and attributions that I'm assuming you already know and I don't have to explain. You dont like MW, fine. Carry on with your trade proposals for Patrick Williams and Myles Turner.
LOL - last time I respond, promise. I love Sengun but he's not the rim protector that MW is and his upside is limited in this area. Wingspan MW 7'7 > Sengun 7'0 Height MW 7'0 > Sengun 6'10 Verticality MW > Sengun Foul rate MW > Sengun
