Smart move from the Spurs. Austin is already Spurs country and Austin is the largest city in the country without a big 3 team. Considering FC Austin is the most expensive and probably the most profitable MLS team, the Spurs would be stupid to let go of their grip of the city from a basketball standpoint.
The AT&T center isn't terrible but there is absolutely nothing around it. San Antonio sucks but that area is like a black hole.
Honestly the stadium inside is weird... feels super old. They are ready for a new one. I think with the growth of New Braun, they would be smart to connect both cities. Should help attendance. San Antonio does not take that long to drive from one side to the other.
Somewhere in that direction would make a lot of sense. It's roughly 1 hour from downtown Austin and 30 minutes from the Buda area. The population along that I-35/130 toll corridor is absolutely booming. They need to reorient themselves as the central Texas team over the next decade.
As a hays county resident the spurs moving into the San Marcos, new Braunfels, Kyle area would be awesome and make a lot of sense. There is a lot of open land and the area is growing rapidly.
Honestly, the suburbs in the hills NE of San Antonio feel more like an extension of Austin, than they do part of the rest of San Antonio, in my limited experience. Waiting for San Antonio/Austin to become a merroplex like Dallas/Ft Worth. That is almost definitely drug abuse. Either opiates or meth, which both cause excessive scratching for different reasons.
