will we eventually see the eddie griffin disaster as the worst set-back in franchise history? maybe the second worst after sampson? what bothers me most of all is the fact that when we list all the things that we must find in a PF for yao...we are describing griffin. -must be able to defend the quick PF's (odom, gasol...) -must be able to hit a midrange jumper -must be a good inside defender -would be nice if he could play the 5 too. behold! i give you eddie griffin!! we may not have made the second round last year with him, but i bet we wouldve made it to the 50 win plateu. the fact that he was so young hurts me even more. yao 23, eddie 22, tmac 24...that would be very tough to beat for the next 10 years. i would rank this as the third worst thing to happen to the rockets became a team. here is my list: (1)sampson gets injured (2)rudy get punched (3)eddie goes nuts (4)PJ's (5)pippin...ehhhh ::shaking head::
The worst set-back in franchise history (at least recent history) would us not being able to secure Tracy McGrady in this trade. Nothing else comes close as I see it. Hopefully, it wont be a set back.
Nope. the lewis lloyd, mitchell wiggiins drug thing hurt us more than anything. those guys were serious players and could do it all. that killed our depth. lloyd was a budding star.
Lloyd, Wiggins and Lucas. An unmitigated disaster that has to rank right up there at or near the top.
Although no one would question his shot-blocking abilities, Eddie wasn't a good inside defender. But there's no reason he couldn't have become one in time. I agree that the loss of Eddie set the team back.
Picking up Glen Rice was a worse move than picking up Pippen. Cost more, returned less. I think, with the loss of this past 1st round pick, we've officially closed the books on that horrible move.
That erased our chance at repeating as Western Conference Champs. If we hadn't lost Lucas the year before we would have had a much better shot at beating the Celtics in '86. You also have to consider losing Moses Malone to the 76ers one of the worst things to ever happen to us. If we kept him, we may have won a championship instead of the Philly, and we definately would not have been one of the 25 worst teams of all time as another thread stated. But we also would have had no chance to get Sampson or Dream. j
