The only reason I think it works is because Sengun and Paolo are smart basketball players. They might operate in similar spaces but there’s enough variance and skill between them to function. What I like best about Green is his ability to play off ball and make smart basketball plays, cuts will be there all day for him with Alp.
Normally I never call threads stupid but this is a Dumb thread, the whole point of the draft is to find a player like Jalen green to build them up as a star/superstar.
I wouldn’t call this thread dumb. From what I can tell, there’s still quite a few who don’t see Green as a franchise player. Corey Brewer 2.0 he may not be, but they still don’t have high hopes for him. In which case trade him to find THAT player makes some sense. I don’t agree with them. But I don’t think it’s stupid to think that way either.
of course it's stupid. how is trading someone like JG who you have a years worth to go off in the actual NBA for an unknown who hasn't stepped foot in the league make any sense. yeah in a vacuum if you don't think JG is untradeable you trade him for a better player but the problem here is you don't actually know that. the proposal makes absolutely no sense
Green is untouchable. But I wouldn’t hesitate to trade Sengun + 17 for pick 4. Ivey Green Chet would run the league in a few years.
Top 4 picks bust all the time. Green as we saw last year has a floor of a Beal/Levine and I am convinced he will be better.
I said I don’t agree with that line of thinking. But the thing is Green isn’t a sure thing either. He’s a lesser unknown, but still not a guaranteed franchise player. I would never do that trade straight up. But if there’s more sweetener, for example an unprotected 1rd pick next year which many believe will be a strong draft, I may have to think about it.
Who said he was a sure thing? The rockets drafted him and he showed in year 1 one what hes capable of. no teen is a sure thing. He literally just turned 20 and we do have actual game film/data to show he has a floor. That's alot better then some other unknown who hasn't even seen the league so going from a lesser unknown to a fully unknown makes sense? definitely not.
I think fans talking about untouchables is like laymen talking about something professional. They were never ever going to touch players anyhow, and the GM would never listen to a fan, rightfully so. I would distance myself from any transactions more because that is not my line of work. I just b**** I guess, that is what the interweb is there for. Stick to what you normally do.
Well, don't forget, the Rockets turned down trading Sampson a 7'4" Phenom and just won ROY for Clyde Drexler (who had a subpar rookie season and the #2 Pick MICHAEL JORDAN, which is who the Rockets would have selected.) Rockets made a mistake there, it can happen. Of course, they didn't know that at the time. . . .
