Oh man that lineup does it for me - its quite literally my best case scenario!! I know I know "our defense is going to be so absurdly bad we will never win a game" .. in reality the defense more than likely would be middle of the pack. Get some great defenders off the bench to HOLD LEADS. Final play Houston down by 1 with possession. Defenders - what do you do? WHAT. DO. YOU. DO??? NGL I went from 6 to 12 real quick - from tank to the bank baby! This lineup probably has us close to the play in next year.
Fair point, ‘very similar’ was a poor choice of words. What I mean is that they have a number of overlapping strengths and weaknesses that make it hard for me to envision them playing together as key pieces. Both big men are best with the ball in their hands to create, neither is a knockdown 3pt shooter to space the floor, both have questions marks about what they can contribute on the defensive end, etc. So it feels to me like if Banchero were this pick, it’s going backwards in terms of adding pieces, even if Banchero is better than Sengun. That said, if the FO thinks Banchero is truly a future superstar you obviously take him regardless of fit, and certainly regardless of fit with Sengun. However if the grade is close between Banchero and another prospect like Sharpe or Ivey, etc, I think you take the player who projects higher on 3s and D, based on what we already have.
Totally agree with all that Random thought but I think the team that needs to draft Banchero is Orlando.
how about houston 1st, orlando 6th rockets give 1st and 17th for 6th also recieve magic's picks for the next 4 years unprotected.
Sengun is better than Banchero imo. Yes they are similar players, similar strengths, exact same size and similar level athletes. Paolo has quicker feet on face ups and ball handling.
On Banchero and Sengun: 1. Smart, good players find ways to play with other smart, good players and they enjoy it--that goes for defense as much as offense. 2. They are both see the court better and are above average passers for their size and position. 3. If you end up with both, why get rid of one even if the don't fully complement one another? The one you keep isn't playing 48 minutes every night. The NBA is not Tecmo Bowl where you can give it to Bo Jackson and let him zig-zag around the field for 10 minutes. 4. They're young. give them a chance to learn together.
I did not understand Fertitta's statement wanting to contend starting with 2023-24. IMHO it adds unnecessary pressure........let him shut up, listen and try.
he's a great athlete, but he doesn't know how to use it to create advantages, such as separation off the dribble. in fact the whole timeline about him is very concerning. 1. HS JR - not in top 100 in his class 2. HS SR - played 12 games at EYBL and was ranked #1 in his class by ESPN 3. Won't play competitively for over a year until the NBA Summer League I mean there is a chance that he got hot at the right time and decided to secure the bag by reclassifying and refusing to play again until he's drafted. who knows what kind of regression you face after not playing for an entire year at that age? he basically needs a year in the GL, then a rookie year in the NBA. he's at least 2 years away, and that's if the #1 ranking wasn't an overcorrection based on a small sample size. I would've swung for the fence on him last year when we had nothing to lose. but I think the clock started on jalen, alpy, and JC. these guys can contribute to winning next year and I wouldn't want to blow this pick and set us a year behind. I have my issues with Murray (age, no elite skill just well rounded), and griffin (injury prone, will the athleticism return?) as well. at #5 I think the guys with the best combination of safe-bet, high ceiling, brings at least 1 elite skill to hang their hat on, are: Daniels and Sochan. Mathurin, Davis, Duren, fit the bill as well but there are better fits within the same tier.
Yeah, he's a big question mark. Even if he's available at #5 and we have #5 pick. Think I will pass on him and go for Murray or Duren.
Because Sengun can't be relied upon defensively. Ultimately, he has to improve his 3 point shooting and play (Defend) the 4 spot. He doesn't have the size, length, athleticism or defensive chops to play the 5 in traditional lineups.
