That’s a nice location, but he must be going boutique, which is actually really smart.

The rockets are a business and when they needed to spend for depth as an owner he didn’t. Yeah still a dumbass and the worst owner

Sure would have given them a better shot instead of relying on folks who shouldn’t even be in the league. Just a silly idea getting rotational players gives teams better chances of winning.

The tilman apologists that are left are still such morons for being as blind and dumb as he is

It's wild to cape for a billionaire.

The Pandemic only made billionaires even more rich. Not a surprise.

    This.

All I can do as a fan is hope that he changes or the Rockets contend despite him.

The owner of the Rockets is a man that to this day is proud that he figured out he could cut his lemon/lime slices to half the size of every other restaurant and save on his restaurant costs. Said it saved him like $3,000 a year…. He proudly told us the story when I did some legal work for him many years ago. This is the mentality we are dealing with… he cuts all costs to the bone (including salaries/benefits) with the idea of starving out the competition.

I won’t argue against his success, just the ethical approach and mentality he takes. Some would argue it’s dated, but it is still working and his wealth is growing.

If a billionaire is going to cut drink garnishes in half and brag about it, I don’t see how we can expect him to do the little things that matter in the NBA like paying the going rate for assistants and player development people that are the best. Like investing in technology and practice facilities. Paying Westbrook a glob of money brings the immediate attention and splash TF wants, but it doesn’t necessarily win titles or develop the culture of winning organizations.

There is a reason the Daryl Morey gnawed off his own arm to get out of town and why MDA decided TF could eat ****.

If only he'd had an entire business career to tip yall off to this before he bought the Rockets?

I even seem to recall several people bringing it up right here on the bbs.

Lol. God wouldn’t it be great if he had to sell his property at a 50% loss.

This is the Las Vegas strip! The epicenter of disposable income for the Uber wealthy. It’s like buying homes of the Malibu coast.

They aren’t making more space on the strip and the Rich will continue to gamble in Vegas.

this is old history and a topic that was discussed over and over years ago. youre welcome to search the history of the kind of moves tilman passed up solely because of LTS. it isn't new and if it is, which it sounds like it is, you just haven't been paying attention or just blind. detailing the dumbass decisions the worst owner has made since he became owner just isn't worth bringing up again when it's already on the board in bulk

Tilman Fertitta was never “not rich”. The whole idea that he had “no capital” was baseless in the first place. People were fed up with Tilman and wanted to hold hope that there could be a change in ownership so they decided to convince themselves so. Literally just weeks before that article came out, he purchased Del Frisco’s and The Palm. And this new casino property is just one of three that were recently announced. A deal for a new Golden Nugget in Colorado and Illinois also just struck. Also within the timeframe, he purchased the yacht, the 767 and a bunch of real estate transactions. For Fertitta’s many problems, there’s no evidence whatsoever that he’s running on little capital. Leveraging debt is a strategy billionaires use. Sports journalists (particularly Rockets journalists) saw it and milked the opportunity to make headlines. Sorry that some of you guys bought it.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think Fertitta is a great owner or anything, I’m just realistic. Is he cheap? Yes. Is he broke? No. And its honestly cringe that people want to be convince themselves otherwise in hopes of an ownership shift.
