I have heard mild speculation that the Spurs may not pursue re-signing Manu Giniboli .. If that is true, the Spurs would be able to offer a MAX contract to Kobe Bryant. Now, assuming Kobe doesn't face jail time from his pending rape trial which begins in late August. Wouldn't it be almost a must for Rockets to complete this T MAC trade because you got to figure a Duncan / Kobe combo would be slightly better if it not a major a challenge for the Rockets to overcome. But being the Houston homer I am, I just might have to give Yao / T MAC combo a little more props than a Duncan / Kobe combo ... :D

    A Yao/McGrady combo couldn't even beat Duncan/Ginobli combo.

You've got to have heart to beat the Spurs. We had it last year with Stevie but unfortunately, the Spurs team had more heart then our team.

If everything we've been hearing about Kobe wanting to be the MAN is true, then this makes no sense. Why leave perhaps the biggest media market and move to SA, only to play 2nd fiddle to the best player in the NBA?

I think it'd be pretty cool if Kobe came to San Antonio (but I don't think it will happen). If it did, you would have the Western Conference Finals representative decided right here in the Texas Triangle for the next few years. It would be really cool if Shaq indeed got traded to Dallas and Dallas then signed Manu to play with him. I'd love to have to watch those matchups every winter.

A few more IQ points, too. But that could hopefully be rectified with an upcoming trade.

Is there a way to pick up Manu cheap? He can play 1 and backup 2. We need more back court players.

It would probably cost too much. Ginobli is a good player, dont get me wrong, but watching him play bring memories of Cat, because of the way he was careless with the ball. Mad Pop pull out his hair. (What little there is left) :D

It would be funny if Shaq was traded to Dallas, and then Kobe decided to go to San Antonio, because he thought he had a better chance of winning another championship with Duncan. The Texas triangle would be NASTY.

What? Than how come the Spurs lost to a anchorless and divided Laker team that in turn was one bad coaching move away from being SWEPT by a team without a superstar (Detriot). You need talent and good team basketball players to beat the Spurs--nothing more, nothing less.

No, not for cheap. No even for max MLE I don't think (6 years for like 42 mil). I expect he will be in the Maggete/Dre Miller salary range--though I am not sure Manu will be worth it.

If Kobe signed with the Spurs, I'd be shocked. I get the feeling he wants a team all to himself. Sure, he wants to win. But I don't think he wants there being any doubts about who is the top player on the team.

If he did sign with the Spurs, however, they would be scary.

There are a lot of teams interested in Manu's services, more interested then the Rockets will be. Agree with him being in the Maggette/Miller salary range, but one thing people may not know about him is that he is already 27. He was a rookie last year but is actually kinda old (compared to how young the league is now).

Assuming we the McGrady trade goes down as we expect, acquiring Ginobili would vault the Rocks into the "formidable" category. I'm sure JVG would use him as a PG because of his exceptional penetration and passing skills. However, unless we figure out how to acquire him using a player (Pike?) and the T-E, there is absolutely no hope of doing so. Pity.

I dont see Kobe leaving the Lakers. They have handed him the keys to the kingdom.

I dont see Ginobli leaving the Spurs unless the Nets look to trade Jason Kidd to the Spurs for some players (Parker/Ginobli etc).

My god, stop whining and crying about the Steve Francis deal. I swear, the people upset about Francis being dealt act like we're dealing Magic Johnson.

Like everyone else has said, it would be very suprising to see Kobe sign with San Antonio and be second fiddle in a tiny media market. He already has his titles, that's not what he's looking for primarily. He wants his own. That said, the Spurs have to be out of their minds to be considering leaving Manu unsigned and renouncing his Bird status. If they do this, there's very little chance he'll re-sign if they can't get Kobe (which is gonna be the case), because who the hell would want to sign with a team that just basically said "Forget you, we want someone better" when that team can't offer any more than any other team he might want to play for. In summation, go for it Spurs!

But about the Francis-McGrady whiners: the same reaction was felt when the Rockets traded a crappy, washed up, injury-prone player named Hakeem. That reaction, like the current one, was visceral and one of loyalty and emotional ties being forfeited...not talent.

Completely agree. People (media, fans) fawned on him liked he was a traditional rookie 2 years ago and a traditional 2nd year player last year. I doubt he will get much better than he already is, not that he is bad, but I don't see him being a star or stud scorer if he leaves playing with Tim Duncan.

Good player, will get more than the MLE, but doubt he will be the equal of Maggette or Lewis despite similar salaries.
