What was the real reason Musk bought Twitter?

Lets take a look at the secondary layers of association.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/27/us/cambridge-analytica-palantir.html
Palantir assisted cambridge analytica in collecting data from FB to help Trump. If you do not know who Palantir is, take a look. Peter Theil cofounded Palantir.

Theil and Musk started Paypal together.

Musk is in deep with Abbott (SpaceX/Tesla) and DeSantis (SpaceX).
Musk is also working with Miami Mayor Francis Suarez on the Boring Company side. Suarez is also a big crypto guy.
Musk and Jack Dorsey are also buddies. Dorsey advocated Musk to be on the board years ago. Dorsey is a big Bitcoin Guy

Joe Rogan is also right in the mix with his large following of libertarians.

I wonder what Musk is going to do with Twitter. Hmmm

And this is definietly true of Musk.

But for those that think this I would offer a test for them...

Compare Obama to Biden...and now compare George Bush to Trump.

There is barely any difference between Obama and Biden meanwhile there is a world of difference between Bush and Trump.

Using the last 20 years is a disservice.

Compare Carter to Biden and Reagan to Trump.

The entire country has lurched to the right. Today's Democrat is basically a 1980s Republican.

It's a good premise. I still think money talks.

He is risking more than 44 billion for the sake of bringing back some de-platformed buddies.

Musk stopped being a bitcoin guy when his Telsa fans accused him of hypocrisy by promoting an energy intense PoW coin. So now Musk's caveat to backing bitcoin again is "when it uses sustainable energy"...but hey Dogecoin, a crypto no one else is seriously maintaining, is a cool fun alternative.

BTW, it's his money and his name, he can change his mind whenever he wants.

Absolutely. Musk can monetize anything. He isn't a philanthropist. Why give money away when you can make money bettering other people. Sure, there will be clowns who will state space travel is a waste of time while the rest of the world outpaces us. Or tell us how awful Tesla is even though every EV off the road is one less ICE vehicle.

If cambridge analytics/plantir essentually got Trump elected, imagine what Musk Plantir/Thiel can do with Twitter.

Musk has stated he is not a fan of the advertisement way of monetization. Now that its no longer a publicly traded company, he is no longer beholden to the stock holders and can run the company at a deficit for extended periods of time if necessary. Even if he doesnt evolve the platform, he can still make money selling the data to the government.

I mean if he trolls libs and governments enough with through twitter, people are going to be more aggressive in finding ways to threaten Tesla's market cap. Easiest is to boycott or over exaggerate his mistakes and try to cancel him (China: nice factories...).

Twitter is not his main cash cow.

Tesla spends little to no marketing and still operates as a status symbol through word of mouth.

    Althouse for the win

    https://althouse.blogspot.com/2022/04/twitter-executives-who-created-rules.html

    April 29, 2022
"Twitter executives who created the rules said they had once held views about online speech that were similar to Mr. Musk’s...."

"But Twitter’s power as a tool for harassment became clear in 2014 when it became the epicenter of Gamergate, a mass harassment campaign that flooded women in the video game industry with death and rape threats.... In September 2016, a Russian troll farm quietly created 2,700 fake Twitter profiles and used them to sow discord about the upcoming presidential election between Mr. Trump and Hillary Clinton.... In 2017... women boycotted Twitter during the #MeToo movement, and Mr. Dorsey... announced a list of content that the company would no longer tolerate: nude images shared without the consent of the person pictured, hate symbols and tweets that glorified violence. In 2018, Twitter banned several accounts linked to the hack-and-leak operation that exposed Mrs. Clinton’s campaign emails, and it began suspending right-wing figures like Alex Jones from its service because they repeatedly violated policies.... The next year, Twitter rolled out new policies that were intended to prevent the spread of misinformation in future elections, banning tweets that could dissuade people from voting or mislead them about how to do so.... In preparation for the 2020 U.S. presidential election, Twitter banned manipulated videos known as 'deepfakes' and forbade users to share material obtained through hacking campaigns. That policy was tested when The New York Post published an article containing emails purportedly obtained from the laptop of Joseph R. Biden Jr.'s son Hunter. Fearing that the materials came from a hack-and-leak operation, Twitter blocked the article from being shared on its platform...."

A quick history of Twitter's shift away from free speech, excerpted from "Inside Twitter, Fears Musk Will Return Platform to Its Early Troubles/Content moderators warn that Elon Musk doesn’t appear to understand the issues that he and the company will face if he drops its guardrails around speech" (NYT).

It seems that the earliest motivation was to protect women and to keep them from avoiding the site. But then it turned into assisting the Democratic Party.

But....doesn't this article make the case that others have been making throughout this whole thing? Bolded is what I'm referencing here...if you allow that in the name of free speech, you're going to lose a lot of customers and then...end up making the same decision Twitter did before to try and retain them.

As for the other point mentioned in this thread, isn't that too, important? Otherwise, foreign powers could control the narrative of your elections and thus the future of your country by using conspiracies, lies, deepfakes, etc etc?

The article says that it banned Alex Jones for violating its policies and banned the laptop story because they basically thought it was a russian operation, that it assisted the Democrats is coincidental, did they block and ban other stories that would be beneficial to the GOP? I'm asking sincerely because this is the only story I ever heard about.

Because banning and going after gaming gate also hurt the GOP but it wasn't anything done to target them, it was something they did to help their bottomline, but it also coincidentally quelled a right wing movement that had a ton of momentum at the time.

It's so funny to me to see people acting like Musk is some angel or bastion of free speech when he has proven that he is not for free speech at all, especially if your speech sheds him or his dealings in a negative light. Lol

Left can no longer use Twitter to suppress information and push radical narratives. And all thanks to my...African Connection.
