You don't know this. He wasn't getting past the Cowboys at 24. IMHO Zion went 17th so it's very possible that Green wouldn't have made it to 20.
Texans 5-Star Recruit Draft Picks 2021: Top Pick Davis Mills 2022: Top Pick Derek Stingley Jr 2022: 2nd pick Kenyon Green The Texans top pick in 2021 and their top two picks in 2022 were Rivals 5-star recruits coming out of high school.
This pick was terrible Im sorry. If your plan was to go CB and OL with the picks then why not just get Ickey the best OL in the draft who can play all over the line at 3 and then take McDuffie at 15 or later. Who's to say you couldnt have nabbed Stingley at 13? Just a bad reach by Caserio. Penning may have made more sense over Green since these geniuses were working out Tytus at guard again earlier this week. Did you all see how ecstatic Kenyon Green was to be selected by his hometown team?? (heavy sarcasm use) Texans are gonna Texan no matter who is in charge. edit: For the record Im perfectly fine with addressing the OL as it is needed, but not so cool with the ultimate players selected vs other possible outcomes.
I don't think we'll know for a couple of years... no telling who is available in your scenario. The Texans would likely know of some of the other teams thoughts on players and may have made an educated guess... I was in favor of trading down from 3 or taking Hamilton at 13; but they got paid a lot to move 2 spots. They have the picks now to move anytime they want the rest of the draft..
Lance had us taking him at 13 in his NFL Mock Pick 13 Houston Texans (from CLE) Kenyon Green Texas A&M · IOL · Junior If the Texans go cornerback at No. 3, they would be wise to bolster their offensive line with a body-moving guard who boasts start-now talent.
I noticed that too but apparently when they showed him right after the pick the video hadn’t caught up yet. They showed him again a little later and the room was going nuts.
not the sexiest pick and maybe a tad of a reach, but if he becomes a 10 year o-line staple then it will be hard to complain. I think you can usually find quality guard play later in the draft but with this guy being a seemingly immediate plug and play, plus the idea that he could even play OT in a pinch does add value.
Nfl Analyst today. "The Texans traded down two spots from the 13th pick -- acquired in the Deshaun Watson trade -- and picked up three Day 3 picks (124th, 162nd, 166th) via a trade with the Eagles. It was an excellent move. Then they selected a powerful offensive lineman in Green, who can be a dominant guard or solid right tackle at the next level. It will be interesting to see if two other linemen that were available at No. 15, Zion Johnson and Trevor Penning, prove to have more successful careers."
