Good because the Astros are winless since they lost Altuve and his .167 batting average from the lineup.
I think we all know to keep a little perspective during a baseball season. We haven't even played 10% of the schedule yet. 2019-2021: BA - .266 SLG - .461 R/G - 5.5 2022: BA - .209 SLG - .362 R/G - 3.6 I believe the 2022 team will revert to the mean (or pretty close). The schedule lightens up quite a bit after another series with both SEA and TOR. I think the record will be 13-12 or so and then the team takes off. This series with TEX should be the tonic the offense needs to get on a roll.
I'm not super worried about the offense. It will eventually come once everyone settles down. Tucker and Altuve aren't going to bad all year. Gurriel is already looking better. Alvarez is still hitting bombs and will eventually get get going. My worry is really more about Valdez and Odorizzi. Odorizzi sucks and Valdez doesn't seem to keep command without the sticky stuff. He's our much less expensive version of Gerrit Cole.
Welp. Click’s first big miss as a GM is officially in the books. 6 2/3 innings of replacement level pitching for $12.5M. Ouch.
Why are they calling up Martinez instead of some of the other options on the 40 man like Bielak? Just need a body to fill that last spot in the pen?
Should never have left West Palm Beach with the team. There’s analytics… and then there’s blind hope/optimism that something will eventually work itself out. Seems like they went with the latter based on his salary.
Baez should have been cut the 1st day of spring training as soon as he threw 5 pitches in his first bullpen. Velocity still down? Bye....
A tad harsh… maybe he just needed to get stretched out? I’d still like more clarification on the injury that apparently sapped everything. Why MLB allows teams to not be straightforward about injuries (unlike other sports) is beyond me.
The guy's velo had been declining for years and the shoulder issue must have severely exacerbated whatever was driving that decline in velo.
I’m hopeful Baez is but a small blip. We have a lot of young arms in the system who I’m excited to see in the upcoming months. Sucks he didn’t pan out but whatever, it’s only a mid-level reliever. Not like we’re sweating some huge underperforming player.
