He isn't stretched out at this time, not sure if they plan to stretch him or not but he did great. Again, walks could go down a bit but very excellent strikeout numbers. Bielak now takes over.
Nerio Rodriguez launched a two-run homer for Asheville, his 3rd on the season. Wilyer Abreu also hit his 3rd homer of the year down in Corpus.
Ray Gaither got the start and turned in his first scoreless outing of the year for Asheville: 3.1 IP, 2 H, BB, 3 K Trying to see if his stuff can stick as a starter, I suppose.
Miguel Palma launched his second homer of the year for Fayetteville. Ryan Gusto allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out three over 4 scoreless. Still early, but it's kind of looking like Jose Betances is turning a corner. He walked two and struck out six over 2.2 innings for the save. Well, 9 walks in 8.1 innings is probably gonna need to be fixed. But hey, 16 strikeouts!
Similar line to Hunter Brown's earlier this week. Solomon gets the win thanks to run support. Josh James gets the save after a scoreless 9th but he made it FAR more interesting than it needed to be. recording 3 K, but also 2 BB and a single. I think he'll be one of the first guys waived if we need room on the 40-man roster.
Misael Tamarez vs. Arkansas: 5 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 3 K Shay Whitcomb had three hits, including a 2-run homer (3), and drove in four.
Shay Whitcomb Matt Barefoot Tyler Whitaker I get them constantly confused, because they all have suburban HS names.
Adrian Chaidez vs. Winston-Salem: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 6 K Jimmy Endersby vs. Tulsa: 4 IP, 4 H (solo HR allowed), ER, 2 BB, 4 K Nick Hernandez struck out five of the six Tulsa hitters he faced.
Hunter Brown @ OKC: 4.1 IP, 3 H (3-R HR allowed), 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K He also hit a batter, which came right before the homer. 72 pitches (43 strikes)
C Jose Alvarez is in Corpus making his AAdebut today as Cesar Salazar hit the IL. 5 position players in the system remain in roster limbo: CJ Stubbs, Freudis Nova, Yohander Martinez, Justin Williams, and Adonis Giron. I think all 5 must be injured.
It’s somewhat of a pattern where he starts to struggle in his fifth inning of work. I am still confident he can figure things out. I really do not want to trade him, I think it’s best he remains in AAA until he’s really ready. Per Twitter, his fastball got up to near 100, and his slider was clocked as high as 93.
