Shams - Philly offered Simmons/Thybulle + draft compensation. Did we make the right deal?

Obviously made right pick. Maxey is a stud, Thybulle is fine but limited. I don't expect Simmons to have a successful career at this point. I think he comes back but not at his previous level. A couple protected picks on top of that doesnt do much for me. Simmons would have been fine for us these last two seasons, We would have won a few more games and then he would have either asked out or had the mental breakdown.

The main asset acquired was Jalen Green and our lotto picks the next two years. Do I think that there are going to be better assets that come from the trade then #17. Personally, yes but but some of those are just going to negate what we lose to Oklahoma City.

My sincere hope Is that the draft picks that we gain from the nets over the next few years a few years more than cancel out what we have to give up. But our ability to bottom out quickly was shrewd. painful and correct.

 

Meh, possibly if Simmons got traded earlier he wouldn't have developed "mental issues". Last few years in Philadelphia he was playing and it was fine. I think his experience last year in the Playoffs ruined him, but he would not have been in the Playoffs nor would have had expectations had he been traded to us in 2020, so you never know. Things could have gone completely different.

at least Tag @D-rock and i do think we made the right decision to Ben is not it, he amazing at Def and playmaking but he doesn't have the love of the game like Harden does when he was here for us.

He had always been like this, just that being on a winning team and Klutch sports made him a multi all star just based on hype. You can argue he would have been ok with layups, but fts and jumpshots have always made him cringe.

Plus considering he developed back problems even when he wasnt playing he would have still been injured regardless.

Thybull is still the best player in either trade deal, and the only thing that's happened so far is that our nets pick isn't complete garbage.

I guess some people just need a win.

 

People forget, Simmons wanted to come to Houston. He said he had picked out a new home and was preparing for the move.

Personally, I dont think he wanted to be traded to the Nets and I think if he were traded here John Lucas would be beneficial for him moving forward.

I would trade our #17 pick and Tate for this yr for Simmons.

He was just told by Morey that he was going to get traded here so ofc he's going to be shopping for a home.

He was quite happy that the deal fell through (at the time). In retrospect he might view things differently given what happened in the postseason that year

 

We also arent stuck with a massive contract for a guy who wont even step on the court. Not having all the money tied up is a huge win for a rebuilding team
