So I ordered a meal from Ubereats this evening. Was in no rush, but kept checking outside my apt after an hour. I then get a "how was the food?" from Ubereats so I went back outside again. No food. I let them know through the app and it asked me to check again, so I did and even looked at the outside door to see if it had just lazily been left there. It wasn't, so I told the app I didn't get it and they refunded the money. I then went to reorder the food but it was already closed.

After a brief anger burst, I figured I'd just walk around the complex to double check. And I did find it roughly ten doors down. At 3132 when I'm in 3124. It had been left there for an hour and was obviously luke warm.

I still ate it, but I've no reason, in my mind, to verify I finally found the order several units down an hour after it had been delivered.

This is why I'm not a fan of tipping these things beforehand. It loses any incentive to try. The person didn't call or text and dropped it off at clearly the wrong unit.

    Thoughts?

Totally ethical/fair. They didn't fulfil their side of the deal, and the driver will be held accountable for lazy/sloppy delivery. You had to work for the food and it was late.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine. It's not rocket chemistry. Find the house/apt number, drop package off.

You were right and deserved a refund. The fact that you found it was a miracle.

youre good to go and under no moral obligation to call and let them know. they inconvenienced you with their screw up. i probably wouldnt have eaten it though. what if some freak came by and rubbed their balls all over the food and/or licked it?

    I think it’s fine

I order Ubereats a lot (probably more than I should). 95%+ of the delivery people do a good job. But the few that don’t, this is exactly what happens. And with modern technology, there really isn’t an excuse for not leaving it at the right place or not finding a building. Most of the time, if the buzzer at my building isn’t working or something, I get a message from them asking me if it’s ok to leave it at the front door/lobby/somewhere else. And I’m totally fine with that.

it sometimes takes 24 hours, but I’ve always gotten a refund from ubereats when Ive asked for one.

I ordered 2 Banh Mis a couple weeks ago. Got a notification that the food had been left at my door. I got a delivery, but it wasn’t my order, it was $138 of Vietnamese food that was meant to be delivered somewhere else. I told ubereats, they gave me a full refund and told me to keep the food. Had enough dinner for a week lol

I've never ordered from Doordash/Ubereats/delivery food service...

...but wouldn't the delivery person usually take a picture of the dropped-off goods as "proof" they dropped it off?

Curious? who do you think eats the cost in that case, is it the delivery service? The restaurant still got reimbursed, no?

Yes, they are supposed to take a picture and (with UberEats) say where they left the food. You have idiots they don't pay attention or care where they leave the food.

Why don’t they just buzz you and hand you the food? I don’t someone leaving my food outside on the ground. **** that.

I'm a very generous tipper, but yeah.....I don't like tipping before I get my food.
