I think it is a mistake for this trade, with TMAC&YAO cambo Rockets is going to become the softest team in the WEST, my take is they can't make the playoff. TMAC basically doesn't like to play any kind of defense, the rebound is another big issue. Franscis' problem in Rockets is his inability to do something like pass or defense, but he really tried hard, TMAC is different story, he don't even want to try. Real cure for Rockets is to trade Mobley only, not Francis, guys might not like what I said right now, but you will agree with me next year.
This sounds familiar... oh that's right, I've read this about six hundred times in other T-Mac related threads. Glad it finally got it's own thread! My serious response is this: So? We may not make it into the playoffs next year with Yao + T-Mac (but I think we will) but even if we don't show immediate results we've got a better core to build around and will be a contender for years and years to come.
This trade is happening because the Rockets management feels the core of Yao/T-Mac gives the team a better chance at contending for a championship than the current core. I tend to agree, others do not. However, calling this trade a failure if the Rockets don't return to the playoffs next year is shortsighted no matter what.
Good to see people can see into the future! And now lets dump Mobley and keep Francis! How in the world does THAT solve anything!? Swear to god some people are losing their minds over this Francis deal. Thankfully those people will be gone after the deal goes through.
We should have a ZERO-STARS option. When it hits enough BIG FAT 0 votes, the thread disappears (i.e. add a new distinction: 'Best', 'Average', 'Worst', 'Annihilate'). Will save the Admins...and all others... some time.
He may not be able to shoot, he may not be able to pass, he may not be able to wipe his own ass, but with JVG as his coach, he will play defense, and he will try hard.
How many games have you seen T-Mac play? Are you also saying T-Mac doesn't rebound? T-Mac's defense could definitely be better, but I don't think anyone would call him soft. T-Mac could play harder on D, but to say the guy doesn't try is absurd. I love Steve, but T-Mac is one of the top 5 players in the league and it's rare to have a chance to get one of those guys. If we become a soft team it'll be more due to the loss of Mobes and Cato then Steve. Although I don't think we'll be a softer team just a better one. p.s. i've added your quote to my signature. one of us will be eating crow at the end of the year.
You know, I have seen so many posts from people upset about Francis being traded and calling McGrady soft and this or that it got me thinking. I was originally going to compare Tracy's stats to Steve's but decided this would be better. People claim that McGrady isn't in Kobe Bryant's class and people love Kobe, so I decided to get their career stats out and compare them: Kobe Bryant: 22 ppg, 5 rpg, 4.3 apg, 1.5 spg, 2.6 TO per game, 0.6 bpg, 45% FG, 83% FT, 33% 3pt Tracy McGrady 21 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1.3 spg, 2.2 TO per game, 1.2 bpg, 45% FG, 65% FT 35% 3pt The ONLY difference between Kobe and McGrady is Shaq. How good would Kobe be defensively if he didn't have a monster like Shaq in the paint. Shaq takes pressure off of Kobe on both ends of the floor. And for all the slack McGrady gets for defense he's blocking the same amount of shots per game for his career that Kelvin Cato does. Now, those same people who don't want to trade for McGrady, would they have made the same deal if it was for Kobe Bryant?
with yao improving as he will ever year for awhile then why would we not make the playoffs every year? Especially considering the fact that we are going to attract and pick up many solid FAs such as derek fisher, brian skinner, etc.
Exactly jboslett. People upset that the Rockets are trading Francis act like the Rockets are going to be a two man team with a bunch of garbage. The starting line-up would look like this: C - Yao Ming PF - Juwan Howard SF - Jimmy Jackson SG - Tracy McGrady PG - Tyronne Lue or FA PG With the same cast of characters off the bench for the most part. And for people that think Howard is trash his career average is 18 ppg, 7 rpg, last year 17 ppg, 7 rpg. If someone told you that the Rockets could get a PF with those numbers they would have KILLED to get it! Jackson was just a MONSTER last year, especially the second half the season.
