IMO, the Magic, despite what Weisbrod is saying, know that Houston is their only trading partner here and are desperate to convince Francis so they won't have to trade him off to a 3rd team for pennies on the dollar.

forgot to mention all of the bosses that will be happy cuase their employees are going to be actually working more than following the T-mac trade from their desks.

Thank god i am my own boss and i really can't get mad at myself for spending 8 hours on the computer watching the threads.

fwiw, i do believe that the trade with the rox is immenent. For the first time through this whole fiasco, the orlando magic have a mention of the rox trade on their website. imo, that is usually reserved for when the franchise (not steve) knows something is going to take place.

There was a audio bit pf Francis that was on 610's news update.
And he confirmed he has no problem going to Orlando.

It is nice to hear something positive from someone involved. Steve knows more than anybody, except CD and Weisass, what is going on. He said on a Washington based radio station that this is done, that is good news for Rockets fans.

I totally agree- why would they waste so much time and effort trying to make the "inferior" option work if there were really better offers on the table? Not only does that make no sense, it actually makes negative sense, if that's even possible.

    terrible poker players, those guys.

Steve whined about playing on ORL, Magic got cold feet, Francis' people looked for a third team for him to go to, Steve talked to Van Exel & Cassell & ORL GM Weisass, Steve has changed his mind in playing there, Steve will meet them tomorrow to make sure he still wants to play there.

Did you know that the bulls tried to get mobley last night?

    http://www.suntimes.com/output/sports/cst-spt-bull25.html

Paxson also had discussions with Seattle for Ray Allen, Houston for Cuttino Mobley, Boston for Paul Pierce and Miami for Caron Butler and Eddie Jones. But the deals fell through. The Bulls just don't have the type of assets many teams want, and Paxson didn't want to give away Eddy Curry prematurely.

Not to get off-topic but this is precisely what I've been talking about. The Rox have AMPLE OPPORTUNITY for bilaterial or multilateral negotitaions with other teams with Mobes and Francis on the table. The gem on the Bulls that I have a high degree of faith would work out perfectly within JVG's system is one Kirk Hinrich. He's really the guy who solves our PG needs while givng us youth, hustle, a 3 point shot that's better than SF3, etc. I'd rather shop youth at the Bulls than start picking up too many unwieldy contracts attached to McGrady like this Juwan Howard deal.

IMHO, if this proposed McGrady deal exposes anything it's the fact that Mobes, SF3, and Cato were bar coded as trade bait going into the off-season from day one. Even the "well, it's for McGrady" argument is true, just think about it for a sec. Does three players, all of whom are starter-types with one all-star and two other solid contributors worth one super-star??? That much is a moot point, but what's no longer moot anymore is the fact that all three of them were expendable. Heck, for all of JVG's frustrations this year, with the exception of Yao, I bet he was thinking "new core" after the playoffs ended. How else can one justify this sort of radical change? It's like clearing the decks of the old management (Rudy) and bringing in a fresh squad who has allegiance to the new boss in town (JVG.)

    :p

This is an update on the status of the McGrady trade, from tonight's AP story:
With the Magic pinning their hopes on a prep phenom rather than a polished collegian, it’s clearer than ever All-Star Tracy McGrady is gone. Orlando’s disgruntled superstar has said he’s unwilling to wait out another rebuilding project, and the drafting of Howard is a commitment to the future.
‘‘I can’t conceive of any scenario with Tracy, whether he was staying or not staying, that would’ve made this different,’’ Weisbrod said. ‘‘This is who we were going to pick, regardless of any Tracy factor.’’
Even more telling is that Weisbrod’s first post-draft call was not to McGrady but to Steve Francis — the Houston guard prominently mentioned in trade talks.
Weisbrod said his conversation with Francis was productive, with each man expressing respect for the other’s work. Even Francis’ scuffle with Phoenix’s Amare Stoudemire in March drew praise.
‘‘I think he’s stubborn, I think he’s competitive and I think he likes to win,’’ Weisbrod said.
Magic officials said trade negotiations will break for the weekend.

Well, I don't think the deal will be officially announced today, they will probably wait until after Francis' visit...
