My family had a Betamax in the 80's and sometime in the early 80's Star Wars was shown on broadcast TV and my dad recorded it. It was the first time we ever had a movie I could watch whenever I wanted and I'm not sure how many times I watched it.
Ah, Meyerland III. I was 5 when I saw Star Wars, so don't recall the theater, but I did see The Black Hole there. Which... was also a movie in space.
I remember seeing E.T. at Gulfgate as a kid. That was a big deal. I recall the theater there was extra big and it was totally sold out. Everyone was freaking out over this movie when it came out. It was quite the experience. I also saw Star Wars in Galveston where I was vacationing at a beach house. It wasn’t a big event because nobody understood how big Star Wars was when it came out. It was a historic moment but didn’t feel like it going in. The second and third films were a huge deal, though. Standing ovations abound.
Not favorite, but when I was just the right age, HBO played the F out of "Force Ten From Navarone". I've probably seen that bad movie 1000 times, and will still watch it if it comes on, though its strictly on TCM these days. Same thing with "Looker" with Albert Finney. Again, I objectively know it's not a very good movie. "Outland" with Sean Connery, too: Also, will always, always watch "Logans Run". It was such a mind blowing movie when I was like 10 years old
I feel you. I saw The Empire Strikes Back 11 times in the theater. My father would just sit on a bench outside the doors because he was so sick of it.
Too many movies to mention, but will go with the movies I probably watched the most as a kid: Star Wars series (4-6) Raiders of the Lost Ark Secret of Nimh Clash of the Titans Time Bandits
How the **** did I forget Clash of the Titans? And that reminded me of the stop-motion Sinbad movie, which was also totally awesome.
