I said let’s take a look at our young players, we have Wood/Gordon/Mathews/Tate/Nwaba under contract but they aren’t necessarily long term pieces and I wouldn’t consider them when making draft picks. Priority is picking the best player we can. If you hypothetically have Jrue Holiday available at 17 you don’t pass on him for Omri Casspi or Demarre Carroll because you want size. If the best prospect available is a forward or big then great. Just pointing out that we have the space for a prospect at just about every position.
If you could look into the future...if everyone knew the guard would be better...he wouldn't be available at 17. I'd take a look at a backup center before a guard too. This team is overloaded at guard. BPA doesn't apply (IMO) when the need is so great and so obvious. I think we're there, when adding a #1 pick to the forward rotation won't even fully answer the call at this point. You still need another forward. You need a real answer at backup C, preferably a defensive/rim running type. Not trying to outsmart the roster and adding a 6'1" guard to a team that's been smaller than everyone for years. Let's upgrade already.
I agree. You don't take BPA unless that person is head and shoulders above a position of need and better than what you already have. We have guards. We need 3, 4, and 5. I just hope the pick doesn't drop below 3.
Always draft Jabari. Oh and sorry folks, wood gonna be here at the start of the season. Stone hasn't shown me he can get rid of a guy that's a difficult decision
You don't think that every GM in the league knows you don't want to make three picks in the draft this year when you made 4 last year? That diminishes the value of those picks and you get less in return. If you try to push them into a later draft, the protections are probably more significant .... you give away 17 for a top 17 future pick, it can't get any better but it can get worse - or worse yet is the dreaded language "becomes two seconds" when it doesn't transfer in the specified time frame. Better off holding the asset (Wood) so you can use him to either move up in the draft OR trade him after the draft concludes where you can't get left with a pick you didn't want - that everyone knows you don't want.
Some people continue to mention Chet as the first pick and my concerns are multiplied. We don't have here any expert in training and physical conditioning who can clear up our doubts about the possible physical adaptation of Chet to the NBA? I still think he has great talent but his body is light years away from being able to play in this league.
You know I've been asking that for a while .... I think he can. The only question is defensive effort. One on one we've seen him be able to stay in front of guys like Curry. But there's a difference between one on one and team defense - Is he going to battle over / thru screens or just run behind them? Its the little things that kill.
Finally, someone who gets it on this site. Never in the history of the NBA has there been someone with this huys skeletal body type that’s been a superstar in the NBA. Best ever was Manute Bol, but I’m not sure that I would have taken him with the first couple picks in the draft.
Team needs playmaking and defense in the worst way. The 3 amigos at the top of the draft are specialists on one side of the court or the other. We'll see what Stone values most. 2nd pick should depend entirely on who the first pick was. BPA is how you become the Sacramento Kings. Have a vision. Fill out the roster and go compete. DONT THROW DARTS!
Trade his ass already If available it needs to be Chet. Why? A big guy that can work as stretch (4 or 5). Sengun also does that, he pulls the defense to the top of the paint when he is setting up plays. Havin Chet to be able to switch him in the paint or even stay in the corner would be awesome. Other forwards may have a higher ceiling than Chet. But if we are going full Sengun (and I think we should give it a try), Chet is the answer Depends on Wall being traded or not. If not, we will "tank" for another year until the Rockets unloads his contract.
I don't mind him but I hear your concerns, they have to ramp up on having multiple doctors, specialists, experts on reasonable bulking up etc.
These are the kind of offers the Rockets are going to get for Wood. I've always said we need to add to this roster and KEEP Wood. Playing Sengun at center and keeping Wood at the PF or SF would be best. Adding Jabari would be the perfect fit. https://www.nbaanalysis.net/2022/04...ristian-wood-new-york-knicks-houston-rockets/
My issue isn't with Wood's offensive skills. It is with his mentality. For some reason he thinks he is the alpha. He switches his man to a smaller defender. He doesn't want to pass the ball, etc. Yeah he has great offensive skills. His mentality for team ball is lacking.
I’d consider the second deal if we end up with Ivey in the draft. Toppin has been improving and will give our defense a push in the right direction. Sengun will really need to develop an outside shot in this scenario. If we get Smith, Chet, or Paolo then I would want future draft picks for Wood.
