Sushi places can count, but also looking for "non sushi" places too.

I like Izakaya Wa off of Memorial Drive near Beltway 8 (near Town and Country area).

    Other suggestions?

    SHUN is great

Roka Akor is in 4 cities, was told the one in Scottsdale was great
Kata Robata, but I haven't been there in 10 years

    Uchi is good.

Long long ago when the Rockets were in the playoffs, I went in May and Nick Wright was sitting across from us. Haha.

Nippon for quality to price ratio (nigiri and sashimi)
Oshii for happy hour, best priced
    MF for best quality

I prefer more traditional sushi though.

Toukei in Chinatown is amazing and prob the best Izakaya I've had here. Plus Blkdog is next door and their Green Tea Beignets are stupid delicious.

Teppay is the best sushi in town and the best sushi I've had in the US at this point. Been to highly regarded restaurants in NYC, LA, Austin and Dallas and Teppay outclassed them. The closest I've gotten to actual Michelin rated Tokyo sushi. Their salmon cut was an enlightening experience.

Samurai Noodle has the best ramen. They make the noodles in house and you can taste that. Tiger Den is second and has a great atmosphere.

Others I like are Izakaya, Izakaya Wa, Oishii, and MF Sushi.

Bro, you have a lot of good recommendations and I can't wait to go to some of them. I been to Samurai, and I agree, that's some damn good ramen.

The wasabi chicken thigh skewers at Toukei will shoot your senses into another dimension if you're into that sort of thing. We get it every time we go. It's awesome but intense. Also they have draft Asahi which is always the way to go.

Wife and I are low key obsessed with Japan lol.

There is a small service station in Bissonnet that has KILLER picked sushi.

    Best in Town:
    Kata Robata
    Soma
    Uchi
    MF Sushi

Best bang for the buck is AKA Sushi House. One of my favorite date places. Their HH menu is insane. Always get the raw pepper steak item.

Also, Oishi has been hit with multiple health violations. Sushi Wabi is very close by, just as inexpensive, and the far better option.

And Samarai in Bellaire is also a great place. My mom won't do sushi, and she loves their Teppanyaki style menu.

The date-night vibes are too prevalent across sushi places. We need more BRO sushi joints. A place you can go with the guys and just relax. A place that isn't putting on a production or giving off a club vibe.

I like Handie's as a good bro-sushi-joint. Welcome to new suggestions.

Does anyone recall Tokyo Gardens on Westheimer right inside the loop?

I recall going there for my 17th birthday.

One of those places you had to kneel on a pillow to eat with all of the sliding paper doors. Everything was so much more Japan than these days; Even Koi ponds.

Wish a place like that were still here, with the servers in kimonos, etc. It was pretty awesome.

    YES.

    I remember.

eta: I remember going there with my parents, walking over the bridge of koy pond, that was cool as hell as a kid.

Yep! My older cousin used to bring me there when I was in high school. Always thought it was strangely located, right inside the loop, just a stones throw away from the Galleria/ Dillard's. Huge a$$ Tokyo Garden sign right off east side of 610 west loop. You'd never miss it
