Bellinger had a 3 hit game in Game 5 of the NLCS when he saved the Dodgers from elimination.

 

Hard to put much stock in AAA rate given the jump from A ball and limited number of PAs. Jose Altuve has 5 Ks in 3 games and Brantley has 3 in 3 games. 5 Ks in 4 games doesn't mean much. That said, it is of course something to follow for any young player.

You can definitely see star potential, but I still miss Correa.

 

So far:

New guy is Number 2 SS in OPS. 1100

Old guy is Number 15 in OPS. 648

 

Reminds me a bit of Miguel Tejada, fingers crossed

 

Reminds me a lot of Javier Baez when he was balling for the Cubs.

It's Dusty's MO. Ride the cold hand and hope they snap out of it by benching the hot hand.

 

I get him wanting to sit guys because of the shortened ST but they had two days off this week.

 

Pena's games have been

0 hits, 3 hits, 0 hits, 3 hits, 0 hits, 1 hit, 0 hits, 3 hits

So, he's sitting out on his 0 hits day.

 

Ugh. I really hate Dusty sometimes. Likeable guy, just an OK manager.

 

It's an organizational call for all these rest days, not just a Dusty call.

 

That actually makes sense. That means Goodrum sits today, right?

 

I HIGHLY doubt Dusty would rest these guys so much so early if he wasn’t told to do so.

 

I only have two problems with Dusty as a manager. Who he plays and where he puts them in the Line-up/rotation.

 

Why though? How much rest does a 24 yr old kid need?

 

Somebody somewhere high up read some study.

 

Resting guys is as much about preventing mental burnout as physical burnout, he's played literally every inning thus far, it's not as if he missed time already. He's also never played more than 109 games in his career, and we're expecting him to (hopefully) be available for over 170 this season.

Playing it safe with a little proactive maintenance isn't an absurd decision.

 

Cal Ripkens career OPS over the first 4 months of the season was about .805.

His OPS in August was .766
His OPS in Sept or later was .748

This is one guy with an extreme attendance, and there may have been other factors as to his late season falloff, but it's hard to ignore when people point to Ripken as the way guys should be. Obviously there is far better data somewhere that supports the rest theory, because every smart team does it despite it going against the simple math of always playing your best players.

 

It’s a Dusty decision. No need to pass the buck.
