I grew up with Pralines, but truly started loving flan when I first went to Ninfas.

As a teen going to Panchos I learned how good Sopapillas are.

These days I side towards a Tres Leches; especially the one at 100% Taquito.

But I do love them all.

    What Do y'all say?

Never cared for pralines (candied pecans are vastly superior, much better pecan:sugar ratio), as a kid sopapillas were the bomb though. Flan is great but yet inferior to crème brulée in the custard-dessert category. A good tres leches is the choice here, my gringo madre makes a fantastic one.

As an aside, I've seen them in Mexico City but they're a big thing in Argentina and other places in South America: warm thin crepes filled with dulce de leche and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. "panqueques con dulce de leche". Fantastic stuff.

If you have room for dessert, you're doing it wrong.

Situational decision. Sometimes you plan for it, sometimes you say "nope", sometimes you say "**** it".

How the hell did I forget churros? Caramel filled churros dipped in hot chocolate are amazing.

Eta: are churros a common thing in texmex restaurants?

Cleverley took me & a few others to El Meson roughly 5 years ago. Their Creme Brulee is a must try. Just a hint of serrano peppers. So good.

Honestly, not to me. I don't think I've ever had a churro.

The owner of El Big Bad gave me a flask size bottle of Churros infused tequila for my 50th. Still haven't tried it yet. Saving it for a celebration.

Spain's churros is nothing like what is sold here. Its semi greasy dried biscuit (best description from memory) without the sugar/cinnamon coating designed especially for dipping into hot chocolate.

Not as pleasant if you eat straight up like a domestic churro.

Just found out my college ex has been living in Puerta Vallarta since November.

We'll see if she invites me but the flights are cheap as hell.

Exactly my thought! Keep that flag up, lady.

Side story: I have a friend who lived in the fine city of Shreveport. He told me once there was a local news ‘investigative’ story where they caught the local Poncho’s throwing out bags of dog food cans. Granted, this was Louisiana. Didn’t change my like of Ponchos but I sure looked at the meat closely afterwards.

El Meson has the hands-down best cheese enchiladas in Houston. Try them and let me know what you think. Never had better..:

tres leches for me. Agree on it being great at 100% Taquito.

I like mexican hot chocolate or coffee with silver tequila in it. But that probably falls under Mexican food and not tex-mex, so yall bozos prob cant handle it.

Mexican food up here tends to be more “Mexican” and restaurants often offers churros, which when done right are delish. I also don’t recall ever eating them in Texas. (Tex-Mex in NYC is garbage, BTW.)

Yes, fantastic. But I think I prefer panqueques con cajeta in Mexico.

Tres Leches is great but I have to make it. I love flan but only if it is the dense kind and not the airier, jello-y kind.
