Problem, with the Voltron toys is that the black lion really wasn't made to last. Does anyone have one from that era that was actually played with that's still in one piece? I remember the shoulder sockets falling out after a while, which is a shame since some of the metal material used was pretty solid, but the joint design just sucked. Transformers is definitely my pick and were pretty solid all around, still got a bunch of mine from childhood that are all in one piece. Some of the designs had some issues like the cars where the windshield would break off, but most were pretty solid.
i think yall would enjoy the austin toy museum at congress and 3rd. its a really cool nostalgia trip. https://austintoymuseum.org/
Voltron was pedestrian, mainstream, nerd ****. I'm talmabout borderline indie cartoons with GOOD toys.
The Yamato ones were top notch. I had a 1/60 version a many years ago and the amount of die cast metal on that thing was insane.
ORIGINAL toy release? Gotta be GI Joe or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I'm an avid Transformers fan (still buy them) but their G1 line were a bunch of mismatched toys. Yes, I know the reasons why but it was just weird to not have most of the characters scaled correctly. If you're talking about current toy release I would give it to Transformers though--accurate cartoon representation, really good scale, etc.
I was born a little after the G1 transformer craze, but I still grew up with a love for giant robots. A transforming Macross/Robotech Valkyrie was something I always pined for. Also went through a Gundam model kit phase.
i had heard of it a few years ago, but never went. it used to be on the east side and they recently moved into the 2nd floor of a cool old building downtown. i think its a non-profit or has some kind of city grant b/c there is no way they could afford the rent at congress and 3rd. its basically run by one dude and its made up of his private collection. costs $9. they serve beer and have about a dozen vintage arcade games that you can play for free. i went there about 6 months ago. i was walking down congress and saw that it was there, so went and checked it out. they have a good collection of star wars, but i couldnt find a pic online. they even had some of those "people" toys from the 70's. it was really cool to see that stuff decades after i played with it. really brought back a flood of memories. anyone posting in this thread would love it.
