Our only draft pick... thoughts? NBA Comparison: Steve Nash Strengths: An excellent athlete that shows rapid development in the last couple of years. He is speedy, tough and has very quick reactions. He's got unlimited energy in his game. His leaping ability is impressive. His offensive game is aggressive. He likes to run in the open court and penetrate the paint. His crossover dribble is quick and brakes ankles. His passes are money in the bank; has quick decision making. He runs the offensive sets successfully and delivers the ball to the right person in the right time. He is an excellent defender in the full-court press. He puts great pressure on the ball when defending. Weaknesses: His shooting has range but needs polish. He's more of a streaky shooter. Needs to put on some muscles. His fearless game may cause him foul-troubles. -Dimitris Armadoros I actually like the trade with the Mavs, the international players seem to concentrate on fundamentals a lot more than Americans do now days, so a Euro point guard would make perfect sense While I'm not counting on this guy to turn into a Steve Nash, I don't think it was as bad of a choice as Badiane was, seeing how Badiane was labeled raw across the board. This guy is said to be very quick and a good defender, something JVG could work with. Another point to mention is he's 6'4", the "tall point guard" we've been looking for..
Not sure. But he seems decent...need to see game tape. http://www.interbasket.net/greek/Misc. Graphics/spanoulis.jpg
What did we give up besides the 55th pick to get this guy? I mean.....why would they only give us the 50th overall without asking for anything else in return? I hope we didnt give up anything else for him....but i dont think the mavericks are just doing it out of the goodness of their heart?
Here's another thigh-slapper: Remember the last time we traded with the Mavs for a guy slightly higher in the second round? Ha ha ha ha ha . . .
I posted this in the other thread that seems to have died about our draft. Naming jokes aside, I will see what more I can find out about him.
VASILIS SPANOULIS, PG, 1982 194, the player of Greek national team and BC Maroussi, was drafted last night. He was drafted no. 50 by Dallas Mavericks, but his rights are traded to Houston Rockets. Great success of the player, especially because he has not enough time to make work outs with NBA teams. Lets see what famous Chad Ford said about the player: "......Teams are jockeying for Greek 6-4 point guard Vassilis Spanoulis. I watched some tape of him recently and he is very good. He is an agressive, fearless, point guards with pushes the ball, shoots from the perimeter and sees teh floor well. He will stay in Europe another year or two, but keep his name in the back of your head......." Great! link
Here's what I found using google. http://nbadraft.net/intreport001.htm http://www.euroleague.net/noticia.jsp?temporada=E03&jornada=21&id=550 http://www.euroleague.net/noticia.jsp?temporada=E03&jornada=19&id=342 Power house AEK Athens? http://www.galanissportsdata.com/basketball/mena1/season2003_04/a1pltotrs.asp?s=07 http://www.galanissportsdata.com/basketball/mena1/season2003_04/a1pltotrs.asp?s=03 So his ASS/TO ratio is quite bad: 86/76 http://www.eurobasket.com/gre/gre.asp?NewsNo=37 http://www.beobasket.co.yu/trziste_e/igrac.phtml?broj=275 Assist: 3.5 - 4.5 per game per 28 minutes. Seems his assitance number is not great but I heard that they use different standard when counting assist. at Europe.
Malike Badiane was really out 1st round pick for 2010. Now add in Vassilis Spanoulis as our 1st round pick for 2011 and we will be set at PG and PF in the future!
