The Rockets need another guard (unless you like Porter as the point guard). Ivey is the best guard in this draft, and has the type of skill set to be a high end scorer one on one or as a shooter/finisher. He is a better playmaker than given credit for because he is on a team where there is HORRIBLE spacing and he plays with another point guard already. He is a good passer, he has excellent body control and he has shown passing when the floor opens up.... he also is deadly in transition and would work well with Green in that way - he also can guard bigger guards that bother Green..... I think he is a pretty good fit for the Rockets.... but I also know that some doubt his play making..... I do not, I think he will be a solid passing combo guard. Yes, the Rockets need a rim protector.... and they will either take Holmgren (if he is available) or likely take someone to protect the rim later in the draft with the Nets pick..... or in the draft next season.... the need for a rim protector doesn't have to be addressed by October - the Rockets will be bad either way. Further, If I want a rim protector, I am going to look at a number of guys in this draft late in round 1 or round 2 that excel at that... this draft is VERY deep with rim protectors.
At what cost? If their development is hindered by players who can’t execute then it slows our rebuild down... Like i said, you don't need 5 young elite prospects. You just need 2 and add some great pieces around them. They have a luxury of 3 high ceiling young players now and a top pick. Just a different philosophy i guess... i just worry about too many mistakes around guys we're developing... hard enough with them making their own...
I worry chet won't translate as a shot blocker after he beefs up... I'm fine with Ivey if we're not passing on Jabari who fills a need as a big next to Sengun. Ivey could be a good 6th man or possibly flip with Porter or Green... a 3rd guard isn't a bad idea... was hoping Christopher could be that guy to a degree... I do worry about there being one ball for Ivey/Green to share. I think elite spot up shooting and defense is higher priority and Jabari seems more like a better version of Covington, which we could use more... just my opinion...
Warren is coming off a stress fracture in his foot. He's likely not looking at 75 over 4 or something... maybe more like 25 over 2 with a po after one... maybe 3 years tops... Depending how they unload Wood/Gordon it could make space to make an offer... If they take no salary back that gives them about 25 million under cap keeping holds on the picks but not others... Sign and trade possible with Wood going in deal...
No, no, no. Wood, Gordon, and Brooklyn first for Zion. Then you sign Jokic as a FA. KPJ Green Jabari Smith Zion Jokic
I WANT to add either Jabari or Banchero . Ivey or Chet would be ok , but I wouldn’t be as excited . Some guys to keep eyes on that interest me are : Javale McGee , robin lopez , jalen Smith , Kevin Knox , Bobby portis , Blake griffin , Gary Payton II , Nkitalina , Broderic Thomas of course I don’t wanna pay any of these guys that much , but we can maybe sell them on trying it out and if not we can trade them to a contender . actually , I’d pay portis a lot . Jalen Smith is think you have to , I haven’t done due diligence on him . Does griffin have anything in the tank or is his body done ? Kieth Jones ftw Jabari / portis / sengun frontcourt ... so hype lol . Sign and trade with wood ? Portis prolly wants Ryan anderson $ .
100% all of this. Let the Rockets sink or swim with the YOUNG GUYS. If they sink they get another premium lottery pick. If they swim then your rebuild is going well! Don't get FALSE information winning games on the backs of VETS like Wood & Gordon. No false signals
And if they sink for 14 straight years? Losing breeds losing... If you're wanting to tank still it's a display of a complete lack of confidence in who we have now. We're looking for 2 guys, not 5... as it is we have 5. I'm not a fan of all rookies and screwing their chance to get better... you need some balance...
Yeah, wasn't trying to make this thread about trades... I've liked Warren... good defender and shooter... comes with risk being on the shelf that long... Solid complimentary piece for guys who need the ball in their hands.. i put him ballpark around prime Ariza...
It depends a big part on who we trade and who we get back, but I would love for us to chase the following players: Rubio Ibaka Harrell
I'd look for a veteran, pass first PG that doesn't need many shots per game. Green Sengun 2022 top 5 pick Christopher Garuba Martin Those 6 players need to be getting most of the minutes next season. Then you have Tate and the second 2022 first round pick. So 9 players are set: Veteran PG Green Sengun Christopher 2022 top 5 pick Garuba Martin Tate 2022 Brooklyn first round pick There's room for 1-2 more players to get limited minutes.
If you're going to want to bring in a stopgap small forward who can defend and shoot the 3, why not bring back Covington who would probably command a lower salary than Warren?
The main thing the rockets should be looking for is potential, size, defense, and athleticism. The last thing I wanna see is us snagging some veterans that hustle their way to a bunch of close wins or catch fire from 3. I want us to win because the young guys have raw talent and there's a couple vets on the team showing them how to play the right way. Either way I'd like to see us get someone who has good size for their position. Something we're severely lacking.
