Jeff, I agree with u. Antonio Davis is a great player but not worth 11 million, at least not to the rockets. The only reason they would consider signing Hakeem to 10 million is because that is only temporary. We wont be commited for the next decade.
Also, he is not a 20 and 10 guy night in and night out like CWebb. Webb is franchise type player.
There are times when good players reach their prime of their career and just begin to tear it up. I think Webber is just entering his prime. He had a great year last year and will only get better. thats why i think that whichever team gets him can ride him deep in the playoffs for years to come.
But the Rockets arent in a position to get him since everybody else on our team is a free agent. And I certainly will be very happy with getting Mo, Dream, and SA back. Especially with the loyalty MO is showing. I dont know about u guys but I felt great to be a Rockets fan reading the sports page the day Mo and SA were quoted as saying they want to return so bad. That was awesome...

But even if The Rockets dont get Hakeem, I dont see them goin for Antonio Davis. Too much money. Unless we trade away Cato!!

I think the Rockets would be much more interested in Davis if Mo hadnt gotten adapted to our system the way he did in the second half of last year. i think the Rockets were very happy with him. I think if we didnt have MO and Eddie, we would actually think about commiting to Davis for a long term deal. I mean the guy can ball, he is no Webber but the guy can ball. He can defend, rebound and has an awesome post up game. He was huge in Torontos run in the playoffs.
Thats why i can see some team giving him the 11 mil he wants, and he might be worth it, but not to the rockets. Not any more...

You don't have to be a franchise player to make a huge difference. Think about it, Davis isn't a franchise player, but if you had dropped Davis now, on the Jazz teams that got to the Finals they may have won a championship. People get to caught up on superstars, you also have to have solid role players who make a difference. Davis can be that role player at center

Yes, but role players don't make $11 million per season.

The problem is that if you sign a guy like Davis, an admitted role player who will be 33 when the season starts, to a long-term deal (let's say 5 years for grins) worth and average of $13 to $14 million per year (it starts at $11 million), how in the heck to you justify paying Mobley only $5 million per year or Francis only $7 million (when his time comes)? Furthermore, where does that leave us in 4 years when he is making $19 million and is 37 years old?

I would be thrilled if we could get Davis for 3 years, $28 million. That would put him at nearly $10 million per season and he'd be out of here by the time he was 36. But, he is probably going to want a long-term contract worth more than that. In the short term, Davis would be great. He would be even better if we could get him in a sign-and-trade dumping some of our own salary (cough - Cato - cough) in the process.

The Rockets want Davis so they can have a good rebounder and banger at the center spot. Davis is versatile enough to play C and PF and a front line of him, Mo and Griffin is a pretty formiddible obstacle.

I just can't see giving the guy 5 years, $65 or $70 million. That's crazy for someone his age and skill level.

with all the talented centers in the EC, Cato could actually make a difference (very scary thought!) to toronto (apart from a dent in their sal cap).

I know this is not necessarily the place, but it is nice to see Mr. T has taken an active interest in the Rockets. Well, enough of my jibber-jabber...

    From BskBALL.com:

07/10-MAGIC QUIT ON AD- While Antonio Davis was a player the Magic deeply coveted, he will join Tim Duncan as one of the ones that got away, but unlike Duncan, the Davis situation will end by the Magic's choice. After spending most of the week looking at cap clearing measures the Magic made it clear they would be unable to clear enough space to pay Davis and any deal they could make would cost them Mike Miller, and that was not something they wanted to do. The Magic have been entertaining secondary options, which looks like Marc Jackson and Patrick Ewing. There is talk of a trade with Golden State for a re-signed Jackson that would yield the Warriors Bo Outlaw and a future #1, allowing the Magic to land Jackson and still have their exception to add Ewing. This is far from a done deal, as the Magic are still exploring other options in trade, as several teams are looking to clear some space, and may make the Magic a better deal for Outlaw.

Forget about Davis and lets keep all the free agent players and give Cato another year to prove something or simply show what he's capable of.

That's true Jeff. It would be great if we can get him at that price. I wonder how much Nazr Mohammad would cost. If the Rockets could get him and Brad Miller at a reasonable price that would beef up our frontcourt.

I just don't know about AD....maybe he'll be good for us...but his pricetag is out there...I don't know. I like the team right now with no changes.

Totally overpriced. I would much rather have Bo Outlaw.

Rockets' offseason tasks in order of priority:
    • Get rid of Cato under any circumstances.
    • Sign Chris Webber.
    • Re-Sign Hakeem.
    • Re-Sign Moochie and AirBullard.
    • Pick up the Langhi option for another year.
    • Trade for Bo Outlaw and Raef LaFrentz.

I've been wanting Bo for 2 years. A true banger...

He must have been abused as a child, cause he's gottalotta abuse to dish out.

Det: You're gonna have to give up Langhi for Raef. And then some...
