It's only a 15.6" but has a 144hz screen with gsync. I didn't go with the 300hz screen since you can't lower it down (the Hz, actually you might be able to lower the Hz, but it doesn't help with no integrated gpu use). Obviously you can only game plugged in but the 300hz version will only last 1 hour gaming or not whereas the 144hz version can use the Intel card and get 4-6 hours on battery for non gaming use or game for about an hour.

This is my first time ever buying a gaming laptop, but with the stupid prices on gpus I kind of wanted to try it. What I've enjoyed so far is I don't have to sit at my desk or stream to another device to play AAA games, and can even plug in a 1440p+ monitor/dock np. I don't really plan on gaming on the go etc but with working remote I don't like sitting in front of a desk after work either.

I guess if I would have done this sooner before buying the 3080 ti, I probably wouldn't have bought the 3080 ti... I think what's a mess is the 4xxx nvidia cards coming soon... The other crazy thing if set on a desktop is you can practically buy a pre-built with a 3080 card or better for cheaper than buying the card outright. It's slowly correcting but it's still pretty crazy atm.

I finally started playing Elden Ring and it handles the game np, if anyone decides to get a gaming laptop just make sure to research the different tiers of gpu power use (ie some 3070s will use 140 watts and others will use a lot less/perform worse but still be called a 3070 etc etc)

    Here's an example: https://laptopmedia.com/video-card/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3070-laptop-140w/

This is something you don't really see in desktop cards but in laptops it can basically mean your low version 3070 performs like a higher end version 3060 etc. etc

Yeah, they've been going in and out of stock for a few weeks there, but the good news is they stay in stock for hours or days lately as opposed to seconds.

Of course their servers are overloaded now. lol.

Yeah, I think it sucks on the pricing still and this is coming from someone who paid lower than scalper prices... Like the "new msrp" is better than true scalper prices that were there before but not as low as I'd like since the original 3070 was 499 and the 3080 was 699. Obviously these are Ti flavors or the newer 12gb 3080 but yeah..

At this point if I didn't have card(s) I'd probably get that 3070 ti and then hopefully get a 4080 with some lotto luck, haha, yeah right.

So far on this release cycle I have had the 3070, 3080 ti, and laptop with a 3070.... The 3070 card was plenty good, hence why at this point I'd probably go with a 3070 ti if coming from a 9/10/20 series card.

There's not much of a performance bump in the 3070 TI from a 3070, is there? I thought I remember reading that was a disappointment for the extra price. I mean if it's a few bucks more, I guess...

Oh it's not that there's a performance bump so much (I think you're right too, that it was a little disappointing vs older Ti editions), I just meant going off current prices on evga's site and what's available. Like if there were a 3070 available and it's less I'd take that etc.

I don't think your value for money is there by buying the top dog cards and keeping them for 5 years. You are paying a premium for those cards to be at an enthusiast level of performance.

Video cards are easy to swap out if your setup or desires change. Even with all the crazy combos of power cables they manage to change each year.

I mean, I haven't thought through scenarios that much but if I thought I might want more monitor in 3 years I would deal with the card then. Don't spend the extra money now, spend it when it buys more performance.

Yeah. Like This 3070 TI FTW3's been in stock for the past few days, I think. Tempted to get it, but meh... I'll wait... https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=08G-P5-3797-KL

Yeah, I definitely agree with you, I sold my 3070 at cost to family member, so wasn't flipping cards or something crazy, haha. I think if prices finally come down soon per Asus report or 4xxx series releases soonish as rumored get that vs these current "msrp" prices.

I will tell you the 3070/3080 is so crazy good for me coming from a 1080... I really don't know where it can go from here if the rumors on power usage/performance increase on the 4xxx series vs the 3xxx series, ie unless you're running 4k+ with 120hz... These 3xxx series cards are already silly fast. Especially if you're using 1440p @144-165 hz

I would wait and see what happens when Intels GPU drops.

I bet it is likely to force prices downward.

That's a good point too, I keep sleeping on them, I am pretty much team Green for gpu's but like AMD competing and hope Intel brings something to the table.

Well, the value is the reason why I'm not buying or building a new pc at all. :D If these were normal times, the price difference between a 3070 and a 3080 would only be about $200, I think. And they'd both cost probably half what they're selling for now. So now you're paying probably twice the normal price in going from a 3070 to a 3080 which is why I won't even consider a 3080.

In normal years, that $200 gap over about 4-5 years wouldn't be a big deal. But a $500-or-whatever gap over an already jacked up price is kind of nutty. So, I wait. The 3090 is not something I'd consider even with "normal" prices, and to me, that's probably in "top dog" tier.

Man you aren't kidding when I was seeing the specs... I honestly thought it was a typo/joke, lol. That's some serious power.

Right, like if you needed one, I'd get this one at this point, but you're right the whole market is still crazy right now. And hopefully things get more normal, haha

so was your 1080 ti. The relative price of that compared to a 1070 is comparable to the relative price of a 3070ti to a 3090 now. It's sad that everything has increased in price.

What was wild during the higher scalping points is my 1080 being worth more than I paid for it when new. In the past I've been lucky selling old motherboards/ram for not much loss (heck even a gain here and there) but have never seen that on gpu's unless they were some collectible to someone - ie like a voodoo 3dfx, there's a few versions people will pay 500-700+ for.
