Actor Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with aphasia after struggling with health issues recently. The family has released a statement through his ex wife Demi Moore's Instagram to share the news that he will be stepping away from acting.

    The post reads:

To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.
This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.

As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we plan to do just that.

    Love,

Emma, Demi, Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, & Evelyn

Aphasia, as the family mentioned above, is defined as the loss of ability to understand or express speech, caused by brain damage. Although we have not been told when Willis' cognitive abilities have started to suffer, his diagnosis has come recently.

The 67-year-old actor has a long standing career in Hollywood. Playing leading roles in the Die Hard series as well as appearing in films like Pulp Fiction, The Fifth Element, The Sixth Sense, Sin City and more.

That's sad. Wonder how the brain damage occurred. Thoughts to him and his family...and hopes for him to live as normal as possible moving forward. Great, fun actor.

    Long live John McClane!

    That is pretty farked.

He is by no means an Expendable.

There are fewer and fewer actors with that kind of aura.

Lot of rumors about this recently. He has done a string of extremely low budget, low effort straight to DVD movies in recent years. It was pretty clear he couldn't or studios wouldn't, let him be part of major movies anymore.

Despite having almost zero range as an actor, he was in a lot of amazing movies.

this guy's job was not important and he's smartly stepping away

meanwhile, we have someone in the most important job in far worse condition....

you may be correct, however, your statement would have most definitely been much more correct a few years ago.

I like Bruce. More recently, I enjoyed watching him in 'Death Wish'. I'm sad and sorry he's dealing with this. I'm sending him my best wishes. It doesn't look like it's something that gets better versus worse over time. It's a horrible thing. Hopefully, he can keep it at bay somehow and enjoy more quality years.

Dman this sucks. Dude was like John Wayne of our generation. That streak he had with pulp fiction and die hard with a vengeance i thought he was the biggest action star in the world. Nothing is touching those die hard movies.

Sad reading about him shooting his last films. Dialogue cut and kept brief, lines fed to him through an earpiece, not knowing why he was there, etc.

The fact that someone else is making the announcement for him seems to indicate that it is quite bad already.

Unfortunately, the aphasia didn't occur in time to save us from this iconic bit of 80's Bruce:

Would also add Pulp Fiction into honorable mentions. Even though he wasn't the main character, his role was unforgettable
