Lucas has done an extraordinary job with the coaching of young talent the past couple years and his value and need to this team is unmatched. Whether Silas returns next year is anybody’s guess, but the Rockets first move this offseason should be extending Lucas’ contract to ensure he’s here to help with the progress, continuity, and development of key players Green, KPJ, Christopher, and Sengun.
i respectfully disagree... he may be all that... but given KPJ walking at half time and Wood's ongoing attitude... I'm not really feeling that retaining anybody on this coaching staff should be a priority... imo...
Curious what his thoughts are about not being interviewed for HC the second time around, I really like John in his current role and hope he stays as long as he can, but not sure if he has his eyes on a bigger role. Funny story on JL, my dad ran into him at Westside tennis over a decade ago and he mistook my dad for someone he knew at the club that he hadn't seen in a while , he chases him down and waves and asked him how the family was and chatted it up for 20 minutes, took a while for my dad to figure out he thought he was someone else, but he had already updated him on the family and figured its pretty late to say something at this point. After that every time he sees him at Westside he ends up talking to him a good while and catching up, its been 10+ years and he still has not asked him who he thinks he is but just answers every question honestly. JL has an incredible personality from what it seems, and he seems to treat anyone he meets like they are important from what I have gathered.
I love that thought of yours and normally would agree 100%, but this is the one exception. Unlike our head coach, Lucas gets physically upset when players make stupid mistakes (threw something at the ground in anger last week before a timeout) and the KPJ/Wood issue was because Lucas was man enough to call them out. From what I hear he is one of the hardest working coaches in the game and truly cares for the players like they are his kids. He’ll spend whatever time is needed to help a kid with game or life issues and is a true mentor to those in need. Silas gets credit for the improvement of young players, but the real guy putting in all the work is Lucas. These types of assistants don’t grow on trees and we need to lock him up. Both Harden and Westbrook campaigned for him as their next head coach…..say what you want, but they are both fierce competitors and obviously appreciated what he brought to the table as a coach.
