Helluva run. Great season! Just went cold and couldn’t get that big shot to go down to take control. UH will be back soon enough. UH is in good hands for years to come
Not the way the Coogs want to end the season but it’s still very good year for them. Even with Marcus Sasser’s season ending injury, Kelvin Sampson and his team still found a way to get better as the season progressed. Houston fans should be feeling optimistic for next year/season because when Sasser returns from injury and most of the players on the roster returning, they will be in the top 10 and again contending for the National Championship. This UH Cougars basketball team is going to still be a good powerhouse for a long time especially moving up to the BIG 12 in near future.
What really sucks imo is how Fabian's career ended. His final three games he was complete dead weight. Winningest player in our program history and our unofficial mascot and he basically turned into a pumpkin on his farewell tour.
Great Season. Kudos for sure. Tonight it went south. They went for what seemed like every head fake, and when they finally stayed on the floor, it worked. They were undisciplined. But ultimately, Villanova didn't give them open looks and that was the bottom line. Nobody could make a tough shot. They had 7 or 8 chances to cut the lead to 4 and missed every single one of them except at the 40 point mark. They just couldn't hit the big shot to flip the momentum. All said, they played above and beyond all year. And even went down fighting tonight.
I honestly think that if Sampson sticks around for 5 more years the cougars will have a national title banner to hang in Hofheinz...yes I am aware of the name change, but I graduated from Hofheinz so that's how I will forever see it...
They overachieved and I’m super proud of this season. It’s a rough ending but the team outplays their talent level just based on togetherness and buy in to the system, sucks that if they shot the ball even below averagely they’d probably win the game. Thankful that coach Sampson made this program something alumni can be proud of, I was at the Sweet 16 and almost couldn’t believe this was the same UH I went to not long ago at all. Fight, fight, fight for the red and white :’)
I knew the feeling was going to show up eventually, but there's a big "what if" hanging over all of this for me right now. This was a Final Four ready made for the taking, and no one can convince me we're not in the national title game if Sasser isn't hurt. ****ing ****.
Next year's 8 man rotation is going to be so wildly different. Shead, Sasser, and Mark will be a deadly guard unit. Jarace Walker & Terrance Arceneaux will see tons of time as true freshmen. Roberts will continue to play the Chaney role. The trick is finding replacements for White/Carlton inside. That will have to come via the portal. Edit: Forgot about Sharp. He'll see some minutes when we go small.
They can? I hope they will! If and when White's not playing somewhere, maybe he'd like to start a coaching career as a UH assistant.
It won’t be 8. Sampson will go back to his 9 man rotation. This year was the first time he had to go to 8 for obvious reasons. He ideal rotation is always 2 frontcourt and 2 guards/wings off the bench when he has everyone available Roberts/Chaney one of them will start next to walker.
Chaney is gone, isn't he? Roberts/Walker is a pretty small frontcourt. Mark, Sasser, Shead, Smart is basically all of your guard minutes. R. Walker will play very minimally. Arceneaux, J Walker, Roberts, Powell... maybe Francis? It feels like there's a hole in the frontcourt that needs to be filled by a true center.
