McGrady To Houston Thread (Update: Francis will visit Orlando)

Just to help pass the time, here's a bit I just came across. Note that this interview took place before last Friday's TMac/DeVoss meeting. It's interesting in that again it shows Weisbrod as a liar, a boob, or both.

Is it set in stone that Tracy McGrady will meet with Rich DeVos on Friday?
“No, I don’t know exactly how all that was started. I know Bob mentioned when he was in Chicago that it was his intention to get Rich and Tracy together, and I’m sure that will happen. But Rich and Bob are coming to town Friday because that is the day Okafor and Howard are working out and Rich wanted to meet those kids. I think Bob threw out that it would be a nice idea if Tracy were in town that that would happen too,but frankly, we don’t even know if Tracy is in town right now, and certainly nothing has been scheduled.”

Is there any update on Tracy and being traded?
“Well you might have heard while we’ve been on this call my phone has been beeping. That is actually Arn Tellem on call waiting, and we’ve been talking constantly and there is not really an update so to speak, because to protect the integrity of that discussion we’ve committed to one another to keep it under wraps until it is resolved. I do think it will be resolved rather quickly and I would still say I expect to go the draft table knowing what is going to happen with Tracy. I know that is a short time window, but I really believe we’ll get it done one way or another before the 24th.”


I understand that GM's can't play all their cards in public in order to protect their team's interests and they can't always be truthful. But this guys is a real scumbag in that he's so inconsistent. One minute he's talking about the need to keep negotiations secret and the next minute he's blabbing to the media that Steve says he was just pissed at the Rockets for the way they handled things. One day he's talking about things will definitely be done by draft day. And then he reverses and says nothing was really imminent and they're in no rush to get things done by draft day. He even lies about a meeting between TMac and the owner! What's the point of lying about that? This guy is just plain disgusting.

Wow. With all the prospect of reshaping the team around Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady, I can hardly wait to see what player we draft tonight that will put us over the top!

 

Feigen just updated his article and threw this in:

"Sources said Wednesday the Rockets and Magic reached agreements on deals that could work either while Francis is considered a base-year player or when his base-year status expires July 1. If the deal is not made in June, it cannot be approved by the NBA and made official until July 14 because of the July 1-13 moratorium on trades or free-agent signings."

 

Does that mean they have two deals ready, one while he is a base-year player and one when he's not?

 

Sounds like it.

 

Most likely yes. The deal may go down tonight or tomorrow after the Draft depending what other deals need to get done during the draft. Orlando is wheelin and dealin anyway they can to replenish the roster. The T-Mac deal with the Rockets is just one..IMO

 

I have a feeling Francis will end up a Bull.

 

If we can keep Cato by waiting until July so Steve's BYC status changes then we have lost nothing. Instead we have kept our back up center for at least 1 more year and maybe 2. Or we can still trade him. Either way patience pay a dividend that impatience does not.

Just don't get me wrong I am not advocating blocking the deal for Cato. If it takes Cato to get the deal done then by all means do it but if we can still get the deal done by waiting a week or so and still keep Cato then it makes no sense not to wait.

 

I am doing some lurking on the Phoenix Suns forum and my god they really are stupid. They were whining that Marion (a second rate star) + Joe Johnson (an average player at best) + the 7th pick in a WEAK draft year is too much to give up for TMac. Not only that, they claimed it was a better deal than Steve + Cat + Cato while we take Howard's lousy contract back. UnF*ckin'Believable.

problem with waiting is that as soon as july 1st comes around, other teams who arent in the running so to say right now can jump in because of the sign and trade options. They can try to entice the magic by doing a sign and trade with a player to help match mcgrady salary.

with all the people saying look at steve francis, he wants to be a rocket as a positive thing about him and that mcgrady is wanting to leave him team

have you guys ever though its mcgrady who wants to be a rocket? he has made it clear he'd only sign an extension with houston putting other teams in a bind because they know he'll leave after one season and go into the FA market. Francis on the other hand has cried about the grizzlies and now once again. T-mac has at least endured having to play in toronto, then in the shadow of his cousin VC, then coming to orlando where he did all he could to make it a winning organization by himself after hill went down. the magic didnt do anything except fire the coach to help t-mac there. they made no effort to try to place good/decent players around mcgrady to help him. after juwan howard there is really no one for t-mac in orlando to help. gooden yeah he is a good young player but he isnt going to be a real scoring threat and needs to improve his game still. T-mac has gotten fed up because he's done everything in his power to help the team and the managment there has done nothing in return to help him. can you imagine the way francis would have reacted had he been in a situation where he had to do everything with no help whatsoever from his teammates and then having losing seasons over and over? he would have demanded to be traded all throughout the season. as much as i love the way he plays on the court (heart etc) he has always been very unprofessional off the court and his refusal to change the way he plays to better the team (ie work the offense through yao more) has hurt the team.

at this point i dont care what happens to francis, he can be shipped to abu dhabi to play for the sheiks, after what he has done this time i dont want him back in a rocket uniform.
