Edit - here's the link. sorry i forgot.

    http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/news_draft_040622.html

No real news, but I'm dissecting every little schred. I hate reading this. I hate not having our grubby little hands on Tmac.

Clutch, it may be worth having a little sticky to track the activity of Indy, Dallas and Phoenix, as they all may have serious impact on the Rox quest to get Tmac.

    Pacers "Really Active"
    as Draft Draws Near
    By Conrad Brunner | June 23, 2004

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The door isn’t necessarily closed on Tracy McGrady, but the Pacers are also involved in other trade discussions that could take them in a variety of directions with the NBA Draft one day away.

Franchise CEO Donnie Walsh said Wednesday evening the Pacers were “really active” in the market, but declined to get specific about the details.

    Walsh

“It could involve the draft. If the McGrady thing heated up, it could involve him,” Walsh said. “We’re involved in a lot of different things, but I don’t know which one will take hold. A lot of these deals would have to be done July 15 (when the NBA allows team to begin signing free agents, thereby facilitating sign-and-trade moves). Even some of the deals involving the draft would have to be done like that.

“We’re really active and we think something could get done.”

McGrady appeared headed to Houston in a six-player trade featuring Steve Francis on Tuesday, but that deal began to fall apart after Francis balked at the prospect of playing in Orlando. That left the door open for other teams that previously had expressed interest in McGrady, including the Pacers and Phoenix.

“I can’t say we’re definitely out of it,” Walsh said.

In addition to the McGrady discussions, the Pacers have been mentioned in several other published reports of trade discussions. They’ve been linked with the Chicago Bulls -- who hold the No. 3 and reportedly acquired the No. 7 pick from Phoenix -- and Cleveland for the No. 10 pick. Reports out of both New York and Memphis have involved the Pacers with varying degrees of specificity. All of the reports involve either Al Harrington or Ron Artest.

    Jackson

Cavs general manager John Paxson told the Akron Beacon Journal the chances of keeping the No. 10 pick were “about 50-50.” To make the deal work under salary cap rules, Cleveland reportedly could add veteran center Tony Battie to the package. Just exactly who the Pacers would target at No. 10 is uncertain, although team president Larry Bird has expressed interest in 6-7 Oregon guard-forward Luke Jackson, who has been projected at that pick.

Knicks boss and former Pacers coach Isiah Thomas, reportedly interested in Harrington, said he wouldn’t hesitate to make a deal with the franchise that fired him last summer.

"I would do business with Indiana," Thomas told the New York Daily News. "I would have no problem making a trade or doing business with them."

With so little certainty about the draft – Orlando has yet to indicate whether it will use the No. 1 pick on UConn star Emeka Okafor or high school sensation Dwight Howard – and so many veteran stars on the market, draft night promises plenty of intrigue throughout the league.

    Bird

Among the most prominent players mentioned in trade rumors are McGrady, Shaquille O’Neal, Allen Iverson, Paul Pierce, Antoine Walker and Michael Finley.

“There’s something going on in this league that if you don’t win everybody wants to move to a different team until they get it right,” said Bird. “But I think that overall it’s just players get into a situation where they get frustrated and the grass always looks greener on the other side. And everybody’s chasing the one dream, trying to win a championship. They’re going to try to do the best they possibly can for themselves to put them in a position to have an opportunity to win it.”

Reporters are lazy. Or so biased toward their own teams that they aren't objective.

The Rockets deal didn't fall apart, as we know, but must wait on some contingencies.

C'mon Indy! Put Harrington in the deal and T-Mac will be heading there instead of here. Gotta Love It.

I was just in Indianapolis fior the USGP and it always amazes me what a podunk town it is. I can't believe it has an NFL franchise. Seriously, it's got to be one of the worst NBA cities to live in.

That report sounds to me like Indiana is only in it if something happens with the Rockets deal. When a GM says "we're not necessarily out of it" that's not exactly a vote of confidence.

Sorry to disappoint you but Francis is going to be gone whether it's in the McGrady deal or another deal, he's basically burned his bridges. Don't know if you gotta love that!

So you are saying if McGrady goes to another team that the Rockets will still trade Francis? I doubt it. How did he "burn his bridges"? he never bashed the rockets. Francis is the best thing to happen to Rockets since Hakeem left and CD would be even dumber if he traded him away. The same people who kissed Francis ass are the same ones now trying to run him out of town, and the same thing will happen to T-Mac if he ever comes here. If you are a Rocket fan don't bash a man because he had one bad season for his standards.

And that's saying a lot, considering his standards are mediocre. :D

When you go about sabotaging a major trade you can bet your sweet @ss he burned his bridges. And you can save your "you Rockets are bashing poor Steve Francis" rants because it doesn't work with me. Few people have defended Steve Francis over the last few years on this board then me, and I have gone on record saying I wasn't to hot about this deal, at least initially. And nowhere have you seen me bashing Steve Francis and nowhere have you seen me wanting to run this guy out of town. I'm just stating a simple fact, when you potentially sabotage a major deal possibly throwing egg in the Rockets face why on EARTH would you think that same organization would want to keep him? And what makes you think that Steve Francis would WANT to return to the Rockets after this? The damage is done, the bridge is burned on BOTH sides, so rooting for the demise of a deal so that Francis can stay in Houston is fruitless.

I wasn't talking about you when I said that. i was talking to the "Rocket fans" who liked Steve at first and now are bashing him for the wrong reasons.

Yeah anybody can do the things Steve does. Im sure if you put Derek Fisher in a Rocket jersey you might still think it was Steve pushing the point

Ok, sorry, thought you were lumping me in! :) Still, the damage is done, Francis not staying in Houston no matter what. It's still possible, but I would be VERY shocked if he stays.

and you really think that would be a good thing for the rockets at this point??? after all this, you think it would be a good thing to bring all these guys back??

the horry thing was an exception...a rare deal that was facilitated by the fact that horry knew he wasn't going full out to his potential...and facilitated by the consumate players' coach in Rudy. i can not imagine how francis and mobley come back now, after all this, would be a good thing that they could build from.

Im sure if JVG would sit down with Cat and Steve man to man and talk about what happen and settle out some differences I believe they would love to comeback and play for him. You know both players give 100% so it shouldn't be that hard.
