I know there are some here that don't believe in this kid but I think he is going to be an absolute stud. He has only been in the league for 3 seasons and he has shown very real flashes. Jermain O'Neal was in the league for almost 5 years before he started showing what he could do. I think Tyson will be better. Imagine a team with Yao Ming 23, T-Mac 25 and Tyson Chandler 21! One more time... Yao Ming 7'6" Tyson Chandler 7'1" Tracy McGrady 6'8" The youngest most athletic and tallest front court in basketball. This is a group that could play together for the next ten years. Chicago looks like they are desperately trying to move Chandler. Could we offer something in the neighborhood of the trade exception plus a future 1st round pick and maybe MoT? Just the thought of this group together makes me think of great things.
I'm a BIG Chandler fan -- the only thing that worries me about him is his back problems -- you've got to be worried about a guy that young who is sitting out for back pain. Otherwise, I'd LOVE to find a way to bring him here.
If Chicago is stupid enough to give the Rox chandler for a low 1st rounder(hopefully) and MoT, when a deal like Ray Allen and the 12 pick for Chandler and the 3 or 7 is out there, they deserve to suck for all eternity.
The difference is we are not asking for their 3 or 7. What could they do by keeping there draft picks, gaining another and getting a 6.5 million dollar trade exception.
That was dumb considering how good Brand was, but is it fair to call Tyson a bust at only 21? Was Jermain also a bust at 21?
I don't know if we have enough to get Chandler, but I agree Crash, it sure would be nice. I think that over the next 2-4 years we'll start to see some of these High Schoolers move on to their 2nd or 3rd team before they blossom. A lot of men don't start to mature character-wise until around 23-25 or so, and I expect that when these High School players hit that age range, they will have learned quite a bit from many different people about what it takes (work ethic, off-court personal life, willingness to learn/communicate with coaches/teammates) to be successful in the NBA. Could Chandler be one of those guys? Sure. Is it worth taking a chance on him? I'd say yes. Here's to hoping that we have enough firepower.
With that size are front court could end up being stupid. Only issue I see is we'd have two players with known back problems...
They can have Taylor, Pike and the TE for AD and Chandler. Yeah baby. Yao/AD Howard/Chandler Boki/JJ Tmac/Barry Barry/Lue If it doesn't work, (bad back) well, at least we exit Taylor. Chandler's off the books in 2 years, and AD is serviceable as backup for the 2 years left on his deal. Then, it's Yao's money! That's risk management.
How about T-Mac? That's my biggest worry for the future of the Rockets' right now, but everyone on the BBS is acting like the Californians I know here who act as if we will never have another big earthquake.
Do you have a bad back, B-Bob? I certainly do, titanium screws... the whole works. I'm worried about T-Mac's back as well, but I'm trying not to. It puts a damper on the fun.
was Portland shopping JO like crazy when he was 21? absolutely not. We couldnt even get him for Pippen.
No, I've been very fortunate with the back so far. Titanium screws? You're practically bionic! Seriously, sorry to hear of the trouble there. I just don't know of many cases where someone had a back back that then suddenly went away for a good ten years, never mind when someone plays such a demanding schedule as 82 NBA games. People have said "Joe Montana" to me, but I'm not sure a drop back passer is a good comparison to what we want from T-Mac.
Thanks, it's a pain, but I press on. I have images of Bird laying on the sidelines, trying to get his to settle down so he can play for awhile. Yes, I understand your concerns completely. But there's always the exception that proves the rule and other handy clichés that no one wants to hear. We have to place are trust in our medical staff if the deal goes down. (arrgh!)
I don't mean to rain on the Tyson Chandler parade because I would absolutely love for the Rockets to acquire him, but the big question is: Who do we have left to trade for him that Chicago wants?
I was thinking about starting with the trade exception plus a draft pick and maybe something else. We could even start by taking some unwanted salery from them. KeepKenny, Jermain O'Neal was traded along with Joe Klien for an aging Dale Davis. At no point in Davis career has he been considered a dominant player. Further more Dale Davis has never averaged more than 11.7 ppg a year and only averaged double digits in scoring less than half of his seasons. He has also only averaged double digit rebounds once in his entire career most of which was played in the east. So I think it's obvious that Indiana didn't think Jermain was the next coming of anything.
I like the idea of getting Chandler. Chandler is going to be a very good player in this league if he stays healthy. He has the potentials to be a defensive force. I remember he averaged a double-double for about ten games last season before he got hurt. The kid has no real skills just yet, but he's such a freak physically and he's still very young. The Bulls are now very willing to deal Chandler. His trade values have dropped significantly due to his injuries. I think that if the Rockets offer a future first round pick and take a bad contract off the Bulls' hands, we could get Chandler. Here is where our TE can be used.
