This time of year you can throw the rankings out the window. If anything, this year computer and statistical rankings such as kenpom mean more than what some a$$hole on the east coast thinks about college basketball. The key to winning the game against Arizona is to get them to play our game, stay out of foul trouble, hit our free throws, and remember what got us here, mainly playing elite defense and controlling the boards. If we can do all that we will beat Arizona.
This is by far one of the hardest working college teams on record. They going to play hard nosed defense, hustle, and rebound. This roster is stacked with seasoned players that don't get rattled. I am excepting a close hard fought game. If Edwards shots fall or Moore steps up big again they can take this one. Go Coogs!
Fortunately for UH they do some of the things TCU did last night at a higher level that makes Arizona uncomfortable. Lets shock the world.
The most promising sign is that UH clobbered Illinois while having just an absolute trashcan of a game out of everyone not named Taze Moore or Jamal Shead. I was super worried what would happen to this team if two things transpired at the same time: A) Carlton and White get neutralized (either by stellar D, foul trouble, or just a bad game) and B) The outside shots aren't falling Both of those things happened in spades last night. Carlton was in foul trouble, Fabian was as cold as ice, and Kofi made it impossible to score within 6 feet of the basket. Moore's hustle kept us in the game the whole time, and then once Shead found his mid-range floater with 10 minutes to go, we left orbit. When this team has any semblance of offensive rhythm they are as good as anyone in the country.
Anyone going to the game or know where to get some tickets? Wife and I were thinking about going up Thursday.
Looking for the MVP of the game I consider... Second half started as the Taze Moore show Then all Shead all the time Then Edwards finally makes shots White, who never really got un-tracked makes that back breaking play, soon followed by his only bucket Carlton who seemed limited continues to hold their star to a minimum game.... And I come to the conclusion that the whole team stepped up in crunch time. Go Coogs!
this is probably my fav UH teams for sure! they have exceeded expectations....the beginning of the season was so promising, then Sasser and Mark went down, all Coogfans thought the season was over, i know i did....Fabian is up there with my favs as well, reminds me of Galen
definitely not fair to say coogs fans thought the season was over. Most that follow this team on a regular basis understood the culture doesn't change. The ceiling just wasn't as high/room for error was significantly lower when those two went down bc the rotation is severely limited. They haven't even had enough bodies to practice fully since and have had to adjust their schedule big time. Roles changed and UH shifted to playing primarily inside out. It doesn't mean UH wasn't still going to be a good team, with a core of all seniors
if you follow the team regularly then you most know i meant coogfans.com (will edit my OG post, nvm too late), i also don't disagree with what you typed but i think you missed my point, for me/coogfans "season over" means not going on a deep tourney run...which was the expectation going into the season, as soon as those two went out, that expectation changed....kudos to Kelvin and his staff for figuring it out and FWhite for his leadership
The expectations didn't change. UH was still going to be good enough to be one of the top 25 and fav to win the AAC. winning a game or two was definitely in the cards. This is where it gets extremely iffy when you reach the #1/#2 teams round. Regardless, I can't wait til Thursday
Yup. Neither team wants to play the other's preferred style of play. Very good game here on deck. But make no mistake UH will do what they can to impose their identity. We know Arizona isn't comfortable with physicality and mucking up the game. well lets get uncomfortable then. Zona being an inexperienced team hopefully becomes a factor as well
