It’s been a lackluster offseason for sure but that’s just simply not true they do the bare minimum to contend. As an Astros fan we’ve seen the team do a ridiculous amount of moves in recent history to field a contender and it’s been fun to watch. This off-season tho has left a lot to be desired
To be as close as they were to winning it all and having money to spend is maddening. Dallas Keuchel said it best.. "I mean, I'm not going to lie, disappointment is a little bit of an understatement,"
Very underwhelming offseason. I’m sure they will be good, but someone unexpected is going to need to go off this year for them to be great.
They signed Verlander and Norris. While early, these were moves. It's not like they sat on their hands. Many of the signings would not be an upgrade on the Astros. We have prospects at our positions which are questionable. But some prospects hit and some bust. We need to know.
This is a good thing. Give him at least 100 PA before throwing him to the wolves. Just remember Bregman and Tucker struggled early before catching up with the league. Pena is a plus defender with a quick release. He might not have the arm strength of Correa, but who does? But it should get there in plenty of time. McCormick and Meyers are both above average OFers who just need to stay on the field.
Day One Starting Lineup 1. 2B R Altuve - Mr Astro - working on spraying the ball like when he was MVP. Below AVG WAR (4.7) with ONLY 4.4 2. RF L Tucker - Last year's surprise after struggling early. 5.7 WAR 3. 3B R Bregman - Below AVG WAR (6.5) with 2.1. 4. DH L Alvarez - Below AVG WAR (3.8) with 3. 162 gm avg would be 6.9. 5. 1B R Gurriel - 3.7 WAR - 2021 Batting Champ. 6. LF L Brantley - Below AVG WAR (4.8) with 2.5. 7. CF R McCormick 2 WAR in limited appearances (162avg 3.4) 6 SF. 8. SS R Pena - always a plus defender. Looks like he broke out with the bat in AAA, but his bat in unknown. 9. C R Maldenado - He's there for defense but with occasional pop. There's every reason to think the offense can make up for the loss of Correa. Verlander's back, Greinke's gone. McCullers return will be delayed, but perhaps not dead during the playoffs. Kids have more seasoning. There's every reason to expect better pitching.' I'm optimistic.
Bogaerts has an opt out in his contract after this season and is expected to exercise it. Story is kind of insurance in that regard.
Jeremy Pena was the best option aside from bringing back Correa. Hate seeing Correa go but giving Pena the AB’s now is better than paying Correa 35.1 mil for next season and being in the same position this time next year.
Man that hurts. When asked about his favorite moments with Correa, Altuve went straight to the personal things off the field. Didn't even mention baseball.
Yeah, the classic Astros moves that have gotten them to WS the last 3 out of 5 years. Do you people hear yourselves?
