I’d rather roll with Pena at SS. Only willing to go after Story if he’s is willing to play CF. If not, Pena at SS and try to acquire Mullins or Reynolds(long shot) for CF
I get the road splits argument. But my question is..... If you are surrounded by better players from top to bottom on the roster. Won't you get better pitches to hit. The combination of this lineup and MMP being what it is. I see him as a decent but not amazing option. I think it would come down to his defensive abilities. Which I no little to nothing about. Just thinking out loud.

I haven’t seen any reports that he’s close to signing with Boston, I saw they are/were one of the 4 he’s choosing from. Mlbtraderumors put an update out post-Correa that new suitors have emerged, potentially the Astros being one of them
Why not both? We need a proven bat to fill Correa’s void, and with not much money tied into the future we can afford both. Story might be had at $125M/5yr, though he may try to UL his price as the last big FA still out there. Some rumors say we were in on Story but preceded Correa, maybe we up our offer now that Carlos is gone. Hey man thinks an advantage we have is he’d play SS. Though he is supposedly open to switching positions I’d imagine he’d rather not. And we are in Texas (his home state) and have no income tax. Those could help. Again this paragraph is all just speculation though.
With the shift ban (and universal DH), Ted and Yordan are gonna be worth 400mil each, lock those guys up ASAP! I’m kind of meh on Story. He’s not coming here to play CF…rather role the dice with Peña who isn’t exactly young for a prospect, not like we can stash him for another year plus while we see what we have with Story. We’re just gonna have to start the season and see how things go. Hopefully Meyers comes back soon and with presence bc CF is a huge question mark right now. I’m hoping our pitching depth is locked and loaded and ready to ball out…
I think it would be really cool if Correa showed up in the stands to cheer on the Astros in the playoffs.

And average OPS+ from Rockie's players is much more predictive of future OPS+ than road splits. Granted, a defensive SS that is an average bat lie Story probably isn't much better than Pena.
Yuck. The Astros wouldn't do an opt-out for Correa but would for Trevor Story who's less likely to opt out? They'd be paying just as much just to get an extra year of a much crappier player.
