https://www.mlb.com/news/zack-greinke-deal-with-royals Not too heartbroken over this one. Still think Hinch should have left him in during the 2019 game 7 World Series.
Meh, never hit me as Astros material. I thank him for his service and good luck when he is not playing the Astros.
Funny how narrow the margin is between being a guy who pitched here and all time houston legend is. Butterfly flaps his wings and game 7 goes a little differently...
After 6.1 innings, the Astros had an 84% win probability. 8 outs needed, Greinke at sub 80 pitches, and Cole, Pressly, and Osuna all available. Home run, walk, home run...
We traded Josh Rojas, Seth Beer, J.B. Bukauskus, and Corbin Martin for Greinke. Rojas: every day starter, .752 OPS last year, super utility/premium position; star potential Beer: .900 OPS in AAA last year, got his first call up to the show; starter potential, especially now with universal DH Bukauskus: could crack Arizona's rotation/bullpen; fringy upside starter/reliever Martin: could crack Arizona's rotation; fringy upside starter/reliever If they had kept Greinke in the game, or if they had brought Cole in, this trade would look a lot better. As it stands, because we didn't win in '19 and because Greinke didn't give us anything in '21, I'd call this trade a loser.
Also see G4 of the '21 Series... whole thing turned in a 5 pitch sequence in the 7th. Oddly enough, another game Greinke started and pitched well enough through the 4 innings he was allotted.
And if only I had gone home instead of the BSU, I could have avoided two years of bliss and two years of Hell on Earth. Regrets, I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention... Oops! Mentioned it anyway. NFL Championship - Bart Star scores on final play. NFL Championship - Green Bay holds on final play. AFL Championship - Pitsburgh AFL Championship - Pittsburgh NLCS - 1980 NLDS - 1981 NLCS -1986 NLDS - 1997 NLDS - 1998 NLDS - 1999 NLDS - 2001 NLCS -2004 WS - 2005 ALDS - 2015 Maybe not too few to mention.
At this point I think the Astros won the deal. They got to two World Series and almost won one of them. None of the players the Astros dealt really have done a lot.
Meanwhile, Astros offense had 9 outs to score. They never did Does JV pitch on short-rest if Greinke's start vs Tampa didn't suck? Hinch made terrible decisions '19 playoffs
Right up there with Hal Linear in 86. Jeff freaking Calhoun when Jimmy D had been so dominant down the stretch yet never made a single pitch.
