I was surprised as well when I found out he had 6 assists at one point in the game. I like KPJ fine and think he may have a spot on the team long term but not as the primary ball handler. He shouldn't even be the primary ball handler to end this season IMO.
Assist in the NBA are very shady and unreliable. I've seen so many fake assist where a person receiving a pass does a hezzy, takes 4 dribbles, drives, and finishes with a spin move.
The same people who attempt to come up with ways to downplay KPJ having 8 assists last night are the same people who would be jerking themselves off if Jalen Green managed to do the exact same thing. The mindless hate that a certain really toxic player only fanbase has for one of the Rockets talented young guards is absolutely hilarious.
It is a little weird you can dribble out the clock for 20 seconds, get pressed, hurriedly pass to a shooter who bails you out....and *you* get the assist.
Just watched KPJ's assists from last 5 games. I was not aware that almost anything counts as an assist if you give the ball to another player and he scores. Not a direct knock on KPJ's numbers as it is the same for everyone but weird that assist numbers are not indicative of playmaking and creating shots for others.
If Draymond can rack up these "hot potato" type assists, so can anybody else I suppose. Move KPJ to SF, or 6th man , and them worthless ass assists he accumulates , may be impressive...
I can't wait for the day when Jalen Green finally manages to rack up 8 assists in a game.....it'll be hilarious to see your reaction if anyone attempts to suggest getting assists is super easy and not an accomplishment. You guys rubbed yourself raw for days after he managed to get 7 just once......but now basically anything counts as an assist so it's no big deal. kay. The shift from the toxic player only fanbase making excuses for terrible performances to attempting to downplay the performance of others is a weird one.....but I guess it's a good thing that their boy is now playing well enough to not need any excuses made for him.
i mean doesn't KPJ average 40 more touches per game than Green? Doesn't Green Currently average 3APG per game the last 15? ....
Out of curiosity, who had a higher USG% last night, KPJ or Green? Also, you're seriously going to brag on 3 assists in the same thread people are bending over backwards trying to pretend that 8 assists is nothing?
For your sake, you really shouldn't be speaking about numbers anymore since you aren't even able to grasp basic advanced stats like TS%. USG% only looks at shots taken, a player that touches the ball 10 times, shoots 10 times, will still have a higher USG% than a player than takes 3 shots but holds the ball for 20 seconds every possession. This is why an incredibly ball dominant player like Harden only has a USG% of 27, but he leads the league in touches. Touches is a much more accurate measurement of offensive involvement because it actively looks at the frequency with which a player passes, shoots, draws a foul or commits a TO. A player that naturally gets the ball more will have far more touches (but this is not reflected in USG%). In your case, trying to retort a point made about touches with usg% is like trying to retort TS% by claiming eFG% is a more comprehensive stat.
I was having this conversation with DD in the game thread just now. You’re bringing up Jalen Green again so let’s just go with it. I hate this. This shouldn’t be about what one guy does and what the other doesn’t do. I’d prefer KPJ discussion be about KPJ. KPJ is a better passer and dribbler than Jalen Green correct? He is a good passer, but he is not a good creator of opportunities for others because he doesn’t penetrate very much without the help of a pick. I’ve come to accept that just isn’t the kind of player he is. I initially bought into the more athletic Harden hype, but he just doesn’t get to the basket like that. Let’s take away the transition lobs for both guys and focus on half court against a set defense. Look at some of JG’s assists. Watch the defense warp because of his ability to get to the basket. You collapse defenses through post ups or attacking the basket. His penetration creates assist opportunities. There is a difference between this and what you see in the majority of that KPJ video where he’s hanging around the perimeter and just skipping the ball to a guy who shoots.
It really has nothing to do with Green, what is being brought up is the hypocrisy of the toxic player only fanbase.
Would love to know what Stone and Silas really think of KPJ as a future piece. I'm thinking they're going to give him another year at the position with a retooled roster and make the decision after that. Lots of questions about the team still, the biggest one is who they're going to draft and how that will change the team construct. Chet and Jabari are probably the two targets and I'd be ecstatic with either but they'd really change the dynamic of the team. I wonder how Sengun/Chet would coexist. I'm absolutely not a fan of double big lineups as they get shredded at the end of the season and in the playoffs but Chet can be a perimeter player. KPJ has not shown the same jump in progress as Green has. I'd probably have the development this year at Green...then a sizeable gap...then Sengun, Jaygup and KPJ in the rear. Green separated himself post ASB with amazing efficiency, creativity and ability. KPJ just hasn't. He reminds me a lot of Wood. Falls backwards into creative plays at times but not smart enough to do it consistently. His little "look at me I'm a badass over here" dribbles at the 3 point line annoy the hell out of me. He's so unaware. I'm admittedly a little more concerned about where Sengun is at than where I was at the beginning of the season. But he's still horribly young and a rookie so hopefully he develops this offseason.
