Similar to JV “deadline”. Astros don’t do much leaking.

The Astros dont leak till the deal is done or there is no chance.

If you hear anything else, it’s likely coming from the other party.

IE - we have no source willing to tell us much, other than following players’ IG feeds.

Whatever deal the Astros are offering Correa apparently hasn't moved the needle.
The longer this goes on, the less likely Correa comes back to Astros.

I’m ready to see what Peña looks like this spring.

Supposedly Correa is sitting on a $300M offer from Baltimore.

Peña likely will turn out just fine… but if the Astros front office really had full confidence that he was a star in waiting, I don’t think they’d be spending this much effort on the Correa negotiation or even bother with the initial offer.

    Then let him take it.

I want nothing to do with a 10 year Correa deal.

I wonder if they are pursuing a longer term contract or a one year contract?

You can really have fun playing around with the numbers.

    2022
It could be as simple as having two proposals with one for a season and another longer term deal and they are figuring out whether it can be structured to limit sharing the management fee with his former agent.

If this is a scenario, I could imagine signing two deals, one for this season (shared fee) and another for years beginning in 2023.

I look at it a little differently. I think the Astros were planning on Pena being the guy. However, Correa's market hasn't materialized and a number of the likely suitors are no longer interested. If the Astros can get Correa at a number they are comfortable with they will do it. If Correa wants the Astros to match the reported Orioles offer then Correa will be a very rich man playing in Baltimore and getting pounded on a nightly basis by all the other teams in the AL East.

It comes down to mutual interest and knowing the shelf life of being truly elite.
