If Correa signs for a deal over 2 years that does not include an opt out then Pena should be traded. There are simply not enough highly regarded prospects that would bring back a quality return. If you are looking at him being a utility type bench player then Whitcomb is probably a very good option. Pena could be the centerpiece that can bring back a starting 1b for 2023+ or a TOR SP
Trading Pena after signing Correa is the type of move that will limit the Astros championship window. Correa, Tucker and Alvarez should be the long term core too commit that money you need vet contracts to come off the books and be replaced by ready and able top prospects like Pena, Leon, K Lee. That starts next season with Diaz gone, probably at the least Brantley or Gurriel gone/retired.
Mariners trade for Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suarez https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022...g-deal-to-acquire-jesse-winker-from-reds.html
Great deal for the Mariners. If the Reds are doing a full rebuild then Houston should definitely be in on Castillo.
How about: Resign Correa then trade: Pena, Urquidy, McCormick, Solomon, and Barefoot or Brewer. To Baltimore for Mullins and Means.
Not sure why we have to test out how baseball was played for the first 145 years of the game up until a couple of years ago, about 99.9% of the time, but ok. Fine. Lets test it.
It’s dumb they are against the shift. No other sport prevents a defense from lining up anyway they want. “WE NEED MORE HITS DAMMIT”
Wonder if he's talking about Boras? Maldy fired Boras after he failed to land him a big contract in 2019.
I say let him start in July/August. I’m glad we have Odorizzi. Starting pitch depth is crucial at the start of this year. Might see Starters go 2-3-4 innings at the start of the year. Would not hurt signing McHugh in my opinion. JV may pitch 130 regular season innings (with hoping for 40-50 innings in the postseason) I wish we could dump off Baez or he stays on the DL. SP Verlander/Valdez/L Garcia/Urquidy/Odorizzi or Javier (keep Odorizzi happy though) (Lance on the DL) RP Pressly/Stanek/Neris/Maton/Baez/Javier LHRP pitcher/someone who can enter in the fifth and finish the game
I agree - if Javier is a starter who is actually good at it, or if Odorizzi has a bounce back year, it's better than fine. Another way it could be better than fine is if either Garcia or Valdez takes a leap and becomes a true TOR type guy, which I think is more than possible.
According to baseball-reference, there have been 6 players with the surname "Cedeno" (Cesar, Xavier, Ronny, Roger, Andujar and Domingo). All but Domingo have played for the Astros at one point or another.
If McCullers is out for the season, Houston needs to make a move. Of course resigning Correa would make the lineup such that the team would be a heavy contender even with a mediocre rotation. Absent of that, they need a ToR SP to replace McCullers. Castillo, Mahle, Marquez, Means, Manaea, and Montas may not all qualify but any of them would likely replace most if not all of Lances value, and they should be available.
