I love going to the bank, except when they screw up bill pay on my rent check, then try to upsell me on a higher account tier to avoid the cashier's check fees from redrafting the rent check in response to the notice to quit. But the Southwest Bank of Texas branch at Park Shoppes, next to the Roman Delight, after Stafford and Perkins refund day, after catching the #80 Dowling and budgeting for the 10-minute driver break in front of Hofheinz Pavilion...
Apparently in the finance industry it is common to call the person hosing you over a "****ing f*****".
I've gotten far more cash out of the bank. There were hoops to jump through but I didn't go to the manager's 'office' (Chase has a cube farm with little window walls). What a dumb b****. What an idiot manager. 'Don't bother me, ho, call the cops if you're worried' Has the teller been identified somewhere?
The teller – said to be a pregnant Black woman by several media reports that cited a police report – believed a robbery was taking place... Perhaps it was BaylorBear
damn . That lady sounds dumb . uhhhh , he had a debit card . I mean **** . Couldn’t you have just gotten your boss vs calling 911
The real loser in all this is Coogler's nanny, as it is now common knowledge that she is getting paid pretty well and all in cash. IRS is gonna come knocking...
Given my experience on this board dealing with posters who have a pathetic level of reading comprehension skills, I fully understand how a bank teller could have misread the note and thought it just said "give me 12k discreetly" and assumed she was being robbed. Hell we have much more ridiculous examples of poor reading comprehension on a daily basis here.
Also, F*CK Wells Fargo for charging me $5 to cash an insurance check issued from them to me, after I told the manager I was cashing my first insurance check after losing my house in a hurricane. I will never do business with them. (except my Microcenter credit card, which I didn't know was WF until I got it, and I get 5% off with and pay right away to not pay interest and also F*CK them).
While wearing a hat, glasses, and a mask. You can't really verify someone's ID with that. Honestly, I can see how it happened. He could call ahead and speak to a manager too. The teller probably never cashed a check that big before, asked the manager and they thought it was weird. They could have asked questions before calling the cops, but maybe they really were a bit frightened (not all bank robberies happen like the Batman movie).
See that is kind of the major issue. . . .. Among black folx ... . .there is a feeling that everytime something like this happens the onus is put on the black person to do extra. ..to go above and beyond . .. to make them comfortable That there is a constant needs to SMILE MORE . . to BOW AND SCRAPE A LITTLE . . . When Racist Actions happens.. . .. the onus is usually put on the victim ... not the Racist Action initiator Well . .. . if only he was not soo . .. ... . black . .. General Concensus among the black folx. . . .. . (I'm sure someone here will come to refute it cause. .they had that one time in band camp ) . . . is that if he were not black. .. this would not have happened. . . PERIOD. Rocket River
Did you bother reading the article and listening to the 911 call? Regardless of whether or not it was 'weird', it wasn't criminal. ETA When speaking to the 911 operator, the bank employee admitted that she failed to verify Coogler’s information because she was in a state of shock.
Yeah, I read and listened. Sometimes people call the cops for weird things, because they don't know another way. It's like people who go to the ER for their kids colds. It's not the best time/resources for the situation, but it happens. If I was him, I'd be upset too, no question. Even your quote from the article said she was shocked. Maybe she thought she was protecting herself too.
I don't get how anyone is rationalizing the bank's actions. Coogler gave them his ID and debit card. The bank failed on so many aspects to verify the information and went straight to claiming it was a bank robbery. I think the police handled it fine. They are under the impression that there is an armed robbery. I have no issue with them approaching Coogler with their guns unholstered.
Also, when a mask is required, I, too generally have on a mask, hat and sunglasses when I go inside since my prescription glasses tint dark in the sun and it takes them a while to normalize.
These aren't random people. It's a bank. He gave them his id, account and a note. (People take their kids to the ER for high fevers, or because they don't have insurance.) Manager fail for telling her to call the cops. Shouldn't the manager call the cops? Worst manager ever.
There is footage of him sitting and talking to the manager . .. . waiting on the cops I think My problem is. . . at that point all ambiguity should have been over The Manager should have went to the cops and said False Alarm. Our bad. The Cops should not have had to handcuff him and put him in a vehicle. The Problem is. .. . ..as black person .. . . .the feeling is EVERY ENCOUNTER WITH A COP IS A LIFE AND DEATH SITUATION. No matter how bland and incidental . .. in a heartbeat it could escalate to you bleeding out on the concrete . .. .. my mistake. . on purpose. . .. misunderstand . .. doesn't matter. . .you're dead no matter how you look at it. Rocket River
Bank and teller totally ****ed this up. Cops handled this fine and had no clue what they were walking into because the bank ****ed everything up. Anti money laundering laws are bullshit too. It's just another way for the govt to track your transactions. Cops can even confiscate your cash if you have too much on you. It's garbage. On the black thing it looked like everyone involved in this event was black from what I could tell.
