First of all, Moochie is a decent player, but not worth $4.5 Million exception. Norris would be crazy not to take that.

    E-mail is a free agent

Davis had a good stint with the Rockets, (injuries were the bad part), but he had his best year last season with Seattle. he played well with the Rockets. He is 6'3" (not 6'5",,he told me personally when we
    played golf together)

He is a veteran, 33 years old, plus Seattle is starting over and they probably want young guys like Shammond Williams playing more.

The Rockets, an improving team, could use a veteran back-up at the point, and I feel Davis would be a good fit.

Plus, I bet he would not ask for a million.

I forgot to mention that Davis can shoot the three, which means he would be even more important with the new zone defense.

I don't see why we wouldn't want Moochie. He fits in beautifully with the team, chemistry is great, he's as solid a backup as you'll find, and he's got lots of basketball left in him.

I love E-mail, but I wouldn't take him over Mooch. Now, if Norris left, I could see Davis as a replacement, but Moochie is integral to this team. He routinely played 25+ minutes in games last season, and his numbers were great. He's a clutch shooter, and a great passer. He could start on many NBA teams.

Moochie's youth is nothing but a plus in my opinion. He grows with the players around him, yet he provides the type of play you would expect from a veteran. In a year or two, we'd have to talk about "who will replace Davis?" instead of talking about Moochie reaching his prime.

Emanuel Davis is a great backup, and a solid guy. I loved having him here in Houston, but Moochie is the better player, and the better backup. He wants to be here, we want to keep him -- let's get it done and get to signing Mo and Shandon.

Davis is not very good. Overated defender, and cant create his own shot. Not a play maker either. Almost no redeeming quality, he is a fair overall PG but Mooch is way better.

Mooch is probably the most underrated Rocket on this board. And coming from someone who supports Cuttino Mobley, Mo Taylor, and Jason Collier, I know that's saying a lot.

Moochie is easily worth the 4.5 million, and losing him would be a tremendous blow to this team. If you want to know the truth, he was probably the best 6th man in the NBA the second half of last season. He has skills that no other player on this team does, such as court vision, leading us in transition, and above all he is clutch. More than anyone on this team easily. Besides that, he is a good shooter, a pretty good defender, and is great at breaking people down off the dribble. And yet, so many people want to get a backup SG and limit Mooch's minutes to about 10 per game, or replace him with Emanual Davis. Losing Moochie would hurt this team bad... he is so much more important than most of you realize.

I'd rather have Mooch. He is one the best pure point guards in the game. He can also shoot the 3. His chemistry with the team and the fans is frantastic and with him you don't have to expect the worst when Steve has to sit down. I honestly believe he could be starting for another team. Just remember what Bill Worell says.

"Good things happen when Moochie Norris checks into the game."

Brilliant analysis Cat.Moochie in my opinion is the most important free agent among all the players who played last year for the Rockets.

    Firstly, I love Mooch.

Secondly no way he deserves almost 5 million. No Way No Way No Way. Not unless you use the Kelvin Cato Curve for salaries.

You think Moochie is the most important FA for the Rox? Ok. Im fine running with Stevie at the point and picking up any servicable PG to pick up the 5-7 excess minutes.

But Imagine running the season with KT, or Matt Bullard, or even Better yet Jason Collier at the 4 spot. Ugh. Right Now, Mo Taylor should be the Rox first priority. Or an upgrade to Mo Taylor.

Why does almost everyone on this board go nuts at the mere mention of getting a backup shooting guard? Remember: NOT ALL 12 PLAYERS PLAY IN THE GAMES. The Rockets don't need to add another 2-guard to the ROTATION, but adding one to the roster could not hurt. Steve, Cuttino, and Moochie will still get their minutes. The backup shooting guard could play in blowouts and when injuries hit. Not having one could be trouble. Being a UT alum, I'd love to see Darren Kelly have a great summer and make the team as 12th man (or IR). However, if Langhi (and Morris) can prove that they can play the 2 this summer, then disregard this post.

Moochie is a nice role player, but if a backup PG who may play 20 minutes a night is worth 4.5 million what is a true superstar worth (like when Stevie becomes a FA)?
Again I like Moochie but if Dallas or anyone else is willing to pay him that much I can't see us matching it. He is anice PG, but he is a nice BACKUP PG.
If someone is willing to overpay, it doesn't mean we have to be foolish enough to follow suit.
I can see us offering him 2.5-3 mil but I would not match the 4.5 milion. Hopefully OP is right that Moochie likes it hear and will be willing to stay here for less.

Yikeees! When Emanual Davis was here, big things were expected from the tall guard. Injuries prevented those things. The Rockets let him go, those things still are not happeneing. Moochie has performed. Let's keep him. Duh!

I would suggest spreading rumors that the Rockets are interested in signing Booth for 4.5 mil. This may put some pressure on Cuban to use the 4.5 to resign one of his own first.

Mooch vs. Email (oh, those stupid nicknames again!), not even close....it's Mooch hands down. Not only can he break down defenses and shoot, but he's really the best TRUE PG on the team. He's a good defender and has a heart that Cato only wishes he could comprehend.

At the end of the day, I think the Rox (stop it!) will find a way to re-sign him. Somehow he represents the very soul and embodiment of the team. Anyway, how could he run for Mayor in Houston if he lives here in Dallas? [IMG]

    Bima,

I wouldn't mind someone like Kelly at all. He won't expect much time, could sit on the IR if he has to, and could play the backup two when needed. That is an ideal scenario. My comments are more directed to those suggesting we pick up Jim Jackson, Shandon Anderson (for the backup two role), or Joseph Forte in the draft. When you pick up guys with those types of records in the NBA, you know they will command minutes, and one of two things will happen. They'll either complain 24/7 for sitting on the bench all game, or they will cut into the minutes of Mooch and Steve. Picking up someone like Darren Kelly, or a CBA player, to play backup SG is fine with me. But it would be a total waste to commit to a more established one.

P.S.-- Mo Taylor is still probably the most important free agent to resign. As Dreamshake said, the PF's we have under contract right now aren't exactly stars, and most of you would be fine to give Mo a long term deal starting at 5.5 million. However, Mooch isn't very far behind in importance, and he's much more valuable than 2-2.5 million a year. I don't care if he starts or not, we need his skills on this team, and we would be in big trouble without him.
