francis doesn't have the ultimate say. he doesn't carry the big stick.

unless he's willing to walk away from millions of dollars, he will play for whatever team he's traded to.

if that's true then he needs to hire a new agent...he's not exactly endearing himself to the NBA world. particularly not to those in orlando and houston this morning.

So you think Francis has "no leverage?"

If this deal doesn't go down because Francis doesn't want to play in Orlando ... I'd say that's some pretty strong leverage

Note that he shouldn't have leverage, but the Magic are the ones giving him that leverage so thus he has it.

Steve's fighting for himself and that is definitely not uncommon ... I fully expect him to play in Orlando if he gets traded

    Doood...

do you not understand he is under contract? and tracy is not? Tmac has the option and leverage and stevie does not. what is so hard to understand about that??? the guy is crying and b****ing in the media to get what he wants. how professional is that? i know some of you guys really like steve, but he is wrong in this case, and totally unprofessional. He might of ruined the trade, but at the same time ruined his time here in Houston. How do you think most of the fans will react now if he stays? What he has done will basically force Houston to deal him regardless of the outcome of the Tmac sweepstakes.

Alot of you claim that Tmac is being a punk for leaving Orlando, but there are many reasons why. First of, they traded away his bud, mike miller, and then didnt resign darrel armstrong or troy hudson. They made many bad moves, and are now over the cap. He is basically stuck, so he told them he would not resign after his contract. I see nothing wrong with that.

    I tihnk the quote goes:

"Steve's preference is to not go to Orlando," Fried said. "Steve's tasted the playoffs. [The Rockets] got a series under their belts. He was looking forward to going further with the same Rockets team but with another year of experience together. This is certainly not his preference. He loves Houston."

What is wrong with that? He loves Houston. He prefers to play in Houston instead of Orlando. Nowhere does it say outright he's refusing to play there or will sit out his contract.
And yes, why don't you go ask Yao and Van Gundy. You must know them real well.

I don't understand Francis' issue. With Mobley and Cato, Drew Gooden and this year's #1, the Magic will be comparable to the Rockets just before Yao came in (post Hakeem/Barkley). That Rocket team was pretty darn good in a competitive West. In today's East, I think Orlando would be an instant playoff contender.

So, Steve, do you just not like Orlando or what???

You can be the MAN again, but this time on a playoff team. I know it probably feels pretty bad getting snubbed by both the US Olympic team and your NBA team, but it may not be as bad as you think!!!

players get traded to teams they'd rather not play for all the time.

i'm not saying no leverage...what i'm saying is that ultimately this deal is going to go down, whether steve wants it to or not.

what if this deal doesn't go down?? and we say...ok..let's ship him to seattle for allen (just for sake of talking)...and francis says, "i don't want to play for seattle, either."

basically we have a player under a long term contract pretending he's a free agent.

the comments on Fox 26..actual quotes you can hear steve and his client say...are much stronger than that. francis says he would play for orlando if shaq were there...and his agent says that he ought to be able to choose the team he plays for the same way mcgrady can. the problem with that, of course, is that francis is under a long-term contract that's made him a millionaire many times over.

If Francis does sabotage it though, I would trade him to Toronto for Vince Carter.

Ship Steve far away somewhere where he does not want to go.

    :)

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't realize the comments were worded stronger. I don't it was right for him to say that he wouldn't play, but I can't hate a guy that wants to be a Houston Rocket so badly.

Dude, don't go that far. Francis has been here only a few years. Karla has been haunting Houston for over a decade. There's a difference in hate for both of them.

The team did reward Steve with a max contract even though they were unsure if his Menieres was completely controlable.

Steve has always been selfish, you can see it in the way he plays.

Watch him on a break...he refuses to pass it.

    Selfish.

i don't hate him...not at all. he's just been consistently unprofessional, and this is another example of this.

he needs me as his agent!!! :D

Exactly and that's the way it should be ... He's under contract and the Magic are the ones at fault if they back out because he said he'd rather not play for them.

If traded, Steve Francis WILL play for the Magic.

I have no problem with Steve fighting for his NBA livelihood

I'm sure most of us here try to position ourselves at our workplaces to be in the situation WE want to be in ... its no difference for Steve

I just hope the Magic get some balls and starts to act like a professional sports team. Then this will all be behind us.

    I will say this:

Professionalism is beyond SF, after all, the guy skipped team plane for superball after his coach asked him not to do it.

the steve hate is getting out of hand. Hate him more than Karla? How is this even remotely possible?

Some people are really going nuts in here. Any psychologists in the house to guide us through this tough time?

My only issue with Stevie is that he said he's only going to play in Orlando if and only if they get Shaq also. Other than that, if you're heartbroken and really hurt and somebody asked you how you feel, you would keep your mouth shut? You guys should vent your anger to whoever leaked it out (Orlando GM or his agent).
