Putin calculated that political division and polarization at home (not just here but in Europe) was an opportunity for invading Ukraine. In a way, this isn't just a physical war - it's a war of ideas that has expanded to the whole online world community. At least early on, Putin miscalculated. It just happen that Biden has made it a top priority to unite the free world and they have succeeded at every turn exposing Putin's lies about his aggression. It also happens that Zelensky is pitch-perfect in the online war against the aggressor.

We are witnessing that the world still strongly values non-aggression, peace, and freedom over an authoritarian rule which we have now again witnessed, allowing a single mad character to **** up all of that. Who will eventually win out - we'll see.

It's sad, but not unexpected to see folks from the Trump right making their calculation to continue down the path of authoritarianism - it's not just that Trump has that traits in him, the right has been slipping away from the free democratic process and toward authoritarianism to protect what the proceed as their power that has been slipping away due to demographic and progressive changes at home. We all should be very against the idea - once we are there, there is no reason to think we won't get an American version of Putin down the road.

You got a bad education there, Mr community college adjunct professor.

Russia started building up its invasion force of Oct of 2021. So how did an event that happened in Nov trigger an invasion whose prep began the month before??? Check the date on the article before. Than try to remember the order of months particularly oct and nov.

Once again you have proven yourself wrong. You need to get back to your JV high school debate team and let the adults discuss the facts here buddy.

Join @MojoMan and @Trader_Jorge on my ignore list. You aren't bringing anything to the table and you obliviously don't have the mental capacity to hold an adult discussion on a matter that seems to be completely over your head.

Big mistake. Here's what will happen.

    1. Russia won't feel much pain at all from this. American consumers will take the price hike.

    2. US oil companies will make even more obscene profits - highest in their history. They will still be reluctant to increase production.

    3. Republicans who have been pushing for this will now switch and complain that Biden is throwing Americans under the bus and use this as a political weapon in Nov - this is exactly the blunder they wanted from Biden.

    4. I'll do pretty well personally as I do own small cap energy stocks I bought on the cheap and have been waiting for the price to go up. Thanks @Trader_Jorge

    The good: banning Russan oil
The bad: not increasing domestic production to counterbalance.

Gas is about to become (even more) astronomical. How can you hurt your citizens like this? Biden's answer to counteract by increasing green renewable energy is not quick, and is a long term plan, not a short term plan.

There is only one answer, and that is to INCREASE american production. It doesn't matter what the current numbers are - the numbers need to INCREASE. Blaming Russia only for the increase in gas prices is a misrepresentation. Biden's policies are also to blame.

Hurting your citizens financially in an effort to push your green energy agenda is disgusting.

At least we're putting our money where our mouth is. The Majority of Americans support Ukraine. Time to actually show it.

I agree with you on most points here.

Also, the ESG movement has led to these high energy prices and has helped fund Putin's war. Incredibly stupid policy that has weakened our country and lowered our quality of life. Poor are hardest hit by these fuel costs.

Then you are a traitor to your country and a disgusting person.

Maybe you should sign up with Russia or China, I am sure they have some sort of foreign legion.

No one is stopping companies from drilling. They had the highest profits in 8 years last year. They are not the benevolent companies some people seem to think there are. They have been paying dividends to stock holders and doing stock buybacks. So they are making Billions in profit, but the price keeps going up.

There you are wrong my friend. ESG has had little impact on the oil markets - it may some day, but not today. I am strong believer in the need to move off of oil despite having profited off of it. Ironically, by accident when my dad passed I inherited his oil stocks and just sold them off the summer of 2014 at their peak. Then PSCE dropped from $40-something to $8 and I thought, heck, I can buy back what I had at a 1/5 of the price so I did. Of course it dropped to $3 haha. But I get all the reports and listen to what oil companies tell investors because I have a financial stake in it, that's why I am saying ESG has nothing to do with what's going on with the price increase.

Your point about trigger for this war would make sense if Russia hadn't already annexed Crimea in 2014 and have continued to fund separatist groups in Eastern Ukraine for the past 8 years.

We will see..... the initial polling from the Ukraine about President Biden has been positive and had helped kick start what had been a slide since leaving Afghanistan.

I question if the bump will continue, but it may..... regardless, concerning Russia oil, they will find a way to counter balance the impact somewhat, probably through crude from Venezuela or from another foreign producer. There is also a cost involved, but it may not be as obvious.

I figure they must have a plan as I don't think Biden wants the price to sky rocket too much.

They will keep repeating Fox News and OAN talking points, they don't care if it's misleading at the least or outright inaccurate at the worst.

The US gov't has no ability to get the oil industry to increase production. Sorry buddy, life in the free market.
